Asus G73 from best buy. $1300 gets you a great processor, vid card and ram etc and it’s cheaper than the normal model without many drawbacks.
Do you guys think that this is the best I can do for $1000? I need to make a decision soon before I leave the country :P
Depends what you want really. Do you want a 15" laptop or something bigger? Do you want something even a little bit portable or does that not matter at all? What do you really want to spend? I don’t know this stuff but many of the laptops mentioned here are pretty good but obviously different. That one looks OK but I would go for something with the new ATI mobile cards in it.

About 2-3x as fast a M11x but the cost is horrible battery life, huge size, and much heavier. If you are just going sit it in one place all the time go for a big monster.
15" is around where I’d like it. My last one was 17" and huge, and those 11" that have been selling lately (with no CD/DVD drive!) is too small for my liking. I just want a solid computer that is going to let me play some new FPSs as well as SC2, Diablo 3, Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age…

This is a very good laptop, if you can stand the X-TREME look on it. Definitely go with the X3 model (the A1 is end of life)
If you’re going to choose between an HP and an ASUS for the love of God get the ASUS.
