Some of you guys take your podcast listening way too seriously. How can you possibly get so worked up over someone’s opinion? OMG CORY BANKS DOESN’T LIKE THIS GAME THAT I LOVE SO FUCK HIM HE’S SUCH A DOUCHEBAG.

I just ask because I’ve very, VERY rarely had reactions like that to any podcast. I don’t label someone an asshole or a douchebag just because their opinion differs from mine. And listening to a podcast where everyone always agrees with me would get pretty boring.

Oh, good. It’s our twice yearly podcast thread check-in with Eric Majkut.

At least now I know how to pronounce his last name since I listened to him on a podcast a while back.

Who exactly are you responding to here?

I had the same thought when a few guys flipped out when Davis said he wasn’t such a huge fan of Crackdown, and then they used that as a springboard to launch into a bunch of other problems with the Bombcast that they’ve apparently been banking.

Fickle, these gamers are!

Yes. It’s fickle the way that people who’ve said they’ve never cared for Corey Banks continue to say they don’t care for Corey Banks. Next thing you know, those fickle bastards might go crazy and say that they don’t like Corey Banks all that much!

Banking, nothing, brother - this shit comes up constantly. What you’re witnessing is more like dividends.

In fact, we were only just joking about how cyclical this whole thing is.

Regarding the Crackdown, that just seemed like noteworthy insanity. My issues with The Bomb aren’t about taste disagreements.

Wow, 96 pages. It’s like a sub-forum in here of people within Qt3 here, isn’t it? Is it annoying to have visitors drop by, or are they usually welcome?

Anyway, in case that comment by Eric was directed at me, I was just expressing my confoundedness about the fact that someone would like Prototype over Crackdown. I certainly don’t listen to any of these podcasts regularly, or read this thread regularly enough to comment on much beyond that.

My thoughts exactly. I think the only one actually getting too worked up and taking things too seriously is Mr. Majkut himself. Yikes!

Regarding my own statements on Corey Banks, I don’t think he’s a jerk because I don’t agree with him. I’m not sure anyone said that. I don’t like that guy because he acts like a contrarian asshole. He adds nothing to the podcast and, to me, actively detracts from it, so much so that I don’t listen to GWJ anymore. I don’t see how commenting on how the presence of a particularly unlikeable person on a podcast is somehow taking things too seriously. The podcast is a product for my consumption. Commenting on whether I like it or not is the entire point of this thread, which by the way, I’m very proud is still going.

Edit: Yes Eric, I realize that podcasts are free and that somehow insulates them from ever being criticized. No need to bring that up again.

I was actually just referring to the Bombcast-Crackdown thing.

I guess I don’t follow this thread closely enough. For the most part I’ve seen nothing but love for the Bombast in here. I just thought it was odd how quickly that turned into a pile-on of hate.

His opinion of Crackdown is best described with the word “insanity?” That’s what I’m talking about.

Anyone who doesn’t like Crackdown is wrong and insane. This is fact.

You need to get into that “What’s wrong with Penny-Arcade?” thread, you’d help prove a point in there.

You might want to reconsider your use of the word ‘fickle’. zen and Rock8 have demonstrated issues with some of the GB crew’s opinions. zen specifically says that he’s constantly on the verge of removing them from his trawl. MSUSteve’s never cared for Corey Banks’ attitude and I have always thought that A) it is nuts not to love Crackdown and B) Andrew Fitch is a douchebag. No one here is being fickle. We’re all very reliable.

Heh. Kinda funny you say that, given how this exchange initiated.

Most folks who have commented do like the Bombcast, quite in spite of my attempts to sway them away with little jabs here and there. I try to keep my mouth shut generally, because I don’t often enjoy harping on shit that other people are enjoying (the Lost thread being an unusual exception).

Yes, insane. That, however, is aside from my impression of the show. It’s nothing to do with disagreement.

For instance, Bahimiron just revealed that he absolutely loves Cougartown, which is incontrovertibly insane. However, I still plan to bed him tonight on a block of solid ice scattered with rose petals.

So, clearly, insane isn’t a value judgement.

That is why Eric’s post confused me. Myself nor anyone else said we didn’t like Corey because he didn’t like a certain game. It was all for other reasons.

Don’t worry about it. Like Bahim said, Majkut appears a couple of times a year to exclaim loudly (as loudly as anyone can via text anyway) that he doesn’t understand what we’re all so worked up about and how it’s ridiculous to criticize podcasts because they’re free. He usually sets this up by arguing with a straw man about how one or a few of us hate a particular podcast/person expressly because their opinions differ from ours. The fact that no one ever says anything like that doesn’t seem to matter. Why he continues to state these opinions in a thread dedicated to talking about and sometimes criticizing podcasts is way beyond me, but whatever.

Then I was wrong to single you out for that. Your little jabs did seem quite effective, then. I should have yelled out “Don’t you hate pants!?” so see if I could have swung the temporary mob to my way of thinking.

To you it’s not. There’s not a whole lot of cadence in thread posts that are written in under five minutes. I can assume you don’t literally mean he’s insane, but it I could read that as you discounting every opinion he’ll ever have based on that one.

Edit: Cadence is so not the right word.

Heh. Actually, I failed completely - everyone largely ignored me (as is right and proper in such circumstances - see Lost thread). It wasn’t until Rock8 brought it up that it got any traction.

I think you’ll see that most folks still dig the Bomb even when they bitch about it …

Curses!

No worries, man.

I’d already discounted his opinion long before - also, though, not due to his taste preferences, but because I can’t stand his voice.

Suggesting that Crackdown 2 has its work cut out for it in a post-Prototype world, nevermind that Crackdown itself remains better than Prototype, is, without a doubt, facetiously insane.

Apparently noone but the whiner’s choir is allowed in this thread.

And who said you can’t criticize podcasts because they’re free?

This really where you’re going to go with it?

On the internet, when you’re wrong, you just start talking about something else.
