Jeremy Parish should do it.
When I heard about Ellis’ departure to the Halo group my first thought was, “What the hell is he going to do there?” Unless he’s going to be a community manager, it’s hard to come up with any particular reason for him to be hired there. I mean, when Luke left for Bungie it was obvious that he was an insane Halo fan who could give good feedback on multiplayer design, if nothing else. He was also a good writer. I’m just not sure what Ellis is bringing to the table over there.
He already does both Retronauts and Active Time Babble. I’m hoping Scooter steps up to do it. I can’t see Sam Kennedy or Matt Leone taking it over. If Tina ends up doing it, I’ll be done with the podcast.
Might as well go for three! :)
I like the returning The Idle Thumbs podblast well enough, but they need to stop encouraging people to write in with their gaming-related dreams. Their entertainment value ranks right below listening to guys do taste tests on energy drinks.
Regarding Ellis’s leaving, I’m not surprised. Given the stability of the place I’m sure he’s been looking for other options since the most recent mass layoffs. I like him on the podcast, but the format they have now just never really worked for me. Too often the guests were of no particular interest to me, and if they weren’t interesting or engaging people in their own right, it fell flat.
I will concur. It took me a week to listen to it, but holy damn. I have no idea how much of the yang they talked was true, but I’m secretly hoping for all of it. That was not what I was expecting and it was awesome.
As for Ellis leaving, I find myself lamentably indifferent. They were doing a decent job of getting industry folks to come on at first and it was never a really bad show, but it’s still not at the level of Bombcast and The Idle Thumbs Podcast for me. I do wish him luck with his new job, though. Signing up to be on the group responsible for handling the next Halo after Bungie goes away seems to me like volunteering to test the ball smashing machine, but either way I hope it’s good for him.
I was listening to that Mobcast and thinking that you people must have been high, then realized I downloaded the wrong one. The one I got wasn’t bad by any means, but man, having your guests pre-recorded over Skype is just weird. Why bother?
I have to give Andrew Fitch some props. Fickle listener that I am, I’m always willing to give love to anyone who dislikes Judd Winick as much as I do. He didn’t dislike Judd for the same reasons as me (you know, his hatred of women that pops the top off of the Claremont scale) but I’m okay with that.
Looks like the Giant Bomb crew are talking Deadly Premonition endurance run.
I am so very down for that.
I don’t think I’m gonna bother tuning back in to At 1Up. A new episode A Life Well Wasted would be nice.
If you handle all of your podcast DLing on your iPhone without ever connecting it to your iTunes PC, it makes it a lot easier to always keep the last episode sitting around even after you’ve stopped listening to it. That way you can click on the episode, then hit ‘find more episodes’ and it will bring you directly to their page on iTunes.
That said, A Life Well Wasted and Out of the Game have just had their most recent episodes deleted. I’ll get new ones if they come out, but I don’t have a lot of faith right now that they will.
On the other hand, no one here mentioned that there’s a new Irrational Behavior up. Good stuff, though I don’t know if they’ll ever top Southie Stories. I forced mmalloy to listen to it and even before they got to the nasty part she was wincing when he said he tried to cross the St Patrick’s Day parade.
According to Robert’s Twitter, he’s still doing work, interviews, and all that stuff for the show. Not breaking any speed records, but considering the amount of money he gets paid for it, I’m willing to excuse it.
Out of the Game…the last that I saw was that it would return at some point, but that was a month or more back.

Yeah, I don’t mind that Robert takes his time. It is justified by the quality of his work.
Heeeeeeeee’s baaaaaaaaaack.
Apparently he’s bringing Jeff Cannatta and another Shack editor with him. I’ll give it a ride, at a minimum - I’ll freely admit that Jeff Cannatta is not my favorite person on the Totally Rad Show (and I kind of really hate those guys), but this could be a thing.
I dig Cannatta. He seems like a really pleasant guy.
Also along those lines, John Davison has a new podcast at GamePro:
I was interested until I saw that this first ep is dedicated totally to Heavy Rain. …Maybe next week.
Also, the name is “GamePro Conversation?” Heh. I guess it says what it is.
Does anyone know if there’s going to be a RebelFM this week? Usually it’s up by now on iTunes, and I’m getting antsy. They didn’t have one last week (someone’s computer blew up or something), and I loves me some RebelFM.
Anthony was on the GeekBox and said that this probably wasn’t going to be one because of GDC, or maybe a late one.
Cool. I’ll be looking forward to it for sure. Garnett Lee might not always have been the most informed or the most articulate, but his enthusiasm and good nature always made me enjoy listening to him. This is doubly great given Ellis’ departure from 4g1u. I’ll be able to slot Garnett’s new show right in there.

I listened to the first 2 episodes of “Out of the Game”. I like the podcast, but there’s one host (I don’t recognise their voices yet) who keeps using the word “pussy” (as in “get pussy”). I cringe every time. It doesn’t bother me when podcasters drop the F word, so maybe its a familiarity thing. But it just sounds so derogatory. Maybe I’m just getting old.

With GDC and all, have there been any developer interview podcasts? I remember that there was one GDC where the GFW magazine crew did a bunch of interviews with people like Warren Spector and Paul Wedgwood. That was really awesome.
