With GDC and all, have there been any developer interview podcasts? I remember that there was one GDC where the GFW magazine crew did a bunch of interviews with people like Warren Spector and Paul Wedgwood. That was really awesome.

Giant Bomb did two GDC podcasts, although they were extremely informal (the first one is really funny) they did have a lot of developers in a room together chatting.

Apparently he’s bringing Jeff Cannatta and another Shack editor with him. I’ll give it a ride, at a minimum - I’ll freely admit that Jeff Cannatta is not my favorite person on the Totally Rad Show (and I kind of really hate those guys), but this could be a thing.

Just an FYI, be careful when going to shack news. They have been serving viruses and malware via the ad network they belong to. Its been going on for 5 months and don’t seem to care to do anything about it.

If you miss some of the best times of 1upYours, in any way whatsoever, then you should listen to the recent(last?) 4guys1up. It starts out tame but, about midway through, escalates into classic 1upYours, with everybody shouting over each other. There is some great alcohol-infused arguing in that last hour. The only thing it was lacking was Luke Smith’s epic snark.

That sounds exactly like the kind of thing I would NOT want to listen to. I haven’t listened to it yet, and I don’t think I will. I don’t have a long history with the podcast and the people on it, so I got enough of their reunion/farewell schmaltz when Garnett left. And if I had been listening when the 1Upocalypse happened I imagine that would go double.

Still, they apparently had a good run and they really worked well together. The John, David, Garnett combo was my favorite for a while.

Yeah, so far the first one is quite funny. It’s good to have a somewhat less serious podcast.

Yeah, I started listening to podcasts at about that time. Actually, podcasts, and 1upy, were catalysts for an even greater interest in games for me.

I listened to the first 2 episodes of “Out of the Game”. I like the podcast, but there’s one host (I don’t recognise their voices yet) who keeps using the word “pussy” (as in “get pussy”). I cringe every time. It doesn’t bother me when podcasters drop the F word, so maybe its a familiarity thing. But it just sounds so derogatory. Maybe I’m just getting old.

I’m going to guess Luke. I think he worked excellently in the 1up Yours dynamic of frat boy antics but not so much in the GFW playhouse.

Went into this a bit skeptical and I’d still say I’m not sure if I like it. Some good humor (Because, c’mon, that’s what its there for. Listening to multiple weekly gaming podcasts, it becomes very apparent that EVERYONE has basically the same opinions and discussions) but it just felt a little … forced.

This is why I never mind when gaming podcasts go off on tangents. I’ve probably already heard the same opinion on a topic 5 times, so just get to the sillyness! Not to mention that most podcast hosts seem to be chronically misinformed about topics I actually care about (or sometimes even just basic facts about a game). The less time they spend giving an authoritative opinion based on incorrect facts the better :)

There’s this scrappy internet writer named Tom Chick who makes a pretty good games podcast every week.
