“I also thought the “scoring” of the Four Minute Warning segment was extremely dumb.”

Amen!

I agree. Does anybody care who wins? Listening to Garnett trying to decide how to split up 15 points among the 3 other guys was sort of tedious.

He knows that when they do that on the variety or news shows like Good News Week or Who’s Line that it’s, like, a joke, right?

Garnett wants to host Around the Horn on ESPN. That’s the deal with the points thing. Given the universally negative feedback, I’d bet real money he doesn’t try it again.

I loved the latest Three Moves Ahead! I’m glad Bruce was back, awesome epic rant.

Rob told us to say if we liked in depth discussion about WWII armor, and I did.

As for the whole discussion on real-time games not being able to provide the same emergent story experience as TBS games, even though you might miss some moments if you’re playing real-time, the ones you don’t are all the more satifying. I know this because it also happens in FPSs (Battlefield Bad Company 2 being a good recent example).

Does anyone have inside skinny on whether there’ll be a Rebel FM this week?

Arthur tweeted on Monday that due to the publisher/media events this week, that there probably won’t be a Rebel FM.

We interviewed the creator of IGF-award winner Monaco this week. And argued about XCOM.

I will eventually launch a series of T-shirts with Gerykisms on the back.

“There is no such thing as gameplay anymore.”
“If I come back as a panzergrenadier, I’ll look into that and let you know.”
“You will explode in minutes.”

I asked Anthony via Twitter after I saw your post. He gave a definite “NOPE.”

Sold. Unfortunately his “Hello gamers” only works when he says it out loud.

Not sure if it qualifies as a podcast, but the latest 1UP Game Night features the infamous NES title “Bio Force Ape”, using the only known copy of the game in existence, recently purchased on Yahoo Japan by Frank Cifaldi for about $2700. It’s so bad, yet, so entertaining, you just have to see it.

was a good episode. made me want to play combat mission barbarossa again. CM really was emergent… to the point of annoyance sometimes. i don’t know how many times i yelled watching the turns. but it does lend more credence to ‘realism’ imo.

some developer should make a combat mission with graphics like armaII!

Combat Mission
more than any other game made me wish for an undo button that would take me personally back in time.

Calmly walking my troops through a town only to get ambushed by a machine gun nest…and not able to do anything for a minute.

Cowards.

Gaa, no Idle Thumbs this week!

Whenever I’m low on podcasts, I download an assortment of old Idle Thumbs episodes. They actually hold up on repeat listening.

Aren’t they on a bi-weekly rotation?

Started listening to the 4/16 Weekend Confirmed this morning. First, why does Leahy pronounce Garnett Gar-nette? This drives me nuts. Garnett clearly pronounces his name as Gar-nitt, but some people who have worked closely with him can’t seem to grasp this. Patrick Klepeck is another person that always did this. I heard Garnett correct someone on this once, but usually he’s too polite to do so. It just bugs me.

Secondly, I thought Leahy’s crapfest on Splinter Cell Conviction wasn’t well presented. He’s free to not like the game, but he never really articulated why. He just kept making noises while Cannata was talking about how much he liked the game. I love how Jeff clearly states his feelings on a game and backs them up. Leahy seems content to essentially say “meh” without any other support for his feelings on a matter.

I’m doing that with the old CGW/GFW podcasts - I don’t remember when I started listening so I’m still on old ones but I suspect that I’ll re-listen the episodes I have heard anyway. Getting them onto my iPod as actual podcasts was a pain in the ass though :(

1up yours also holds up surprisingly well because while the games are old the discussions are still relevant. And knowing what actually happens when they are making their predictions makes for some unintentionally funny moments.
