idle thumbs how i have a love/hate with thee
love the cast
hate the long wait
Yeah, well, brace yourself, because it’ll be a blue miracle if they record anything this week too. Video Games and Famous, I think, definitely won’t be at E3, Big Bird will be holding down a booth, and I want to say that Boost said that Hot Scoops also wouldn’t be at the conference. It’d be cool if Boost, Bird, and BM got together to do something, but I wouldn’t count on it.
Fortunately there should be like eighty five thousand Bombcasts this week to make up for it. At least one for every day where there’s a major press conference, plus one for the ridiculous flashing painters dancing contortion rally on Sunday.
I’m prettty sure it was serious. Jeremy Parish has made fun of Barnholt’s political views before.
This was the very first time I listened to Idle Thumbs. Half a second into it and they’re somehow in the middle of a conversation making a reference to performing autopsies on babies. Sold.
There’s a callback that explains that later:
“We shouldn’t include that baby autopsy stuff, it kinda crosses the line”
“I’m not sure Idle Thumbs has a line” -Chris
Which is a decent tagline: It Has No Line.
I hate con week podcasts. If you get a cast at all, it’s usually either just a bunch of chatter about things you’ve already heard about (yes, Microsoft’s event was crap, everyone has mentioned it and no one’s bagged on it quite as hilariously as the Giant Bomb crew) or else they’re packed full of guests no one (meaning ‘not me’) wants to hear from. No one will ever be as wonderful and witty as the incredibly drunk Scottish guy from Giant Bomb’s E3 podcasts (I think it was E3) last year.
Jeff Green on the Geekbox was fun, though.

I’m really enjoying the Giantbomb E3 podcasts. I’m not paying much attention to E3 news, so everything they’re talking about is new to me.
Also the bit at the end of the latest Geekbox where Ryan is cajoling Dana and Jeff to come on the podcast more leaves me quite hopeful that there will never be another Ryan, Ryan, and Fitch Geekbox.
Also good that Lost is over, yeesh Geekbox are total fanboys of that series. I actually enjoyed ppl talk about Lost more than Lost itself. actually, gonna be kind of sad to hear some podcasts go thru Lost withdrawal. I think Talking about Games gaming podcast had a few too many Lost fans as well.
btw, Green was funny in the last episode!
I think this was obviously a riff on the whole “1UP curse” wherein as soon someone takes a permanent slot on the podcast, they end up leaving 1UP.com. Barnholt is truly the Carrot-top of gaming.
I find it hard to keep up with the amount of podcasting that some sites do over E3 week. I’ve been sticking with Giant Bomb so far, so that’s been good, but when I finally get to 4g1u it’s going to feel tired and dated.
Forget about the drink Scottish guy. Remember Leigh Alexander? Listenlistenlistenlistenlistenlisten. Listen.

Bombcast Day 2 is good, not just a boring news recap and plenty of Jeff Bridges.

Jumping the Shark has a couple of E3 podcasts. One has Troy something-or-other.

I know they’re trying to reassemble the craziness from last year, but I really would have preferred Leigh Alexander’s mic to be at 1/3 volume.
Leigh Alexander is in prime form on the Giant Bomb live video cast tonight…and not in a good way. Classic I talk the loudest because I need attention.
Leigh + booze = “It cost Activision $775 million to rent out the Staples Center.” argument for 15 min.
Go go Gamasutra girl.
Edit: more train wreck comedy gold from the apology: “I think the Giantbomb fan’s are really forgiving!” Oh the gift that keeps on giving.

Yeah, that was rough. It was hilarious when Jeff started up a different stream outside. Nice to get away from the madness.
That’s at least three of us watching the GB live stream(s) then. Man, we’re nerds.
Well… the annual ruination of one GBcast by Leigh Alexander has come and gone.
God she is awful.

Can’t wait! I’m still on Day 2. Brad Shoemaker really needs to stop with the “Stop me if you’ve heard this, <game title> plays like a <game title> game.”
I recall Leigh Alexander saying she would never do that again, but it sounds like a repeat performance of her previous Giant Bomb appearance. She just yelled over everyone drunkenly and really embarrassed herself. Why did they bring her back? She was a train wreck last time, but not in a good way. She just brought down the whole podcast. I just started on the Day 2 podcast, which is 3 hours long, so it’ll be awhile before I get to the Leigh Alexander ruination.
I find Brad Shoemaker to be the worst of the Giant Bomb crew when it comes to relating information. Either he’s half asleep and not paying attention or he’s extremely excited and can’t stop shouting “DUDE!” When he’s the only one that went to an event he can never just come back and talk cogently about it. Every scrap of info has to be pulled from him in an ad hoc Q&A by the other Giant Bomb guys.
