If I remember correctly, Leigh had herself a defense initiative on QT3. Where’d they go?

Reading the GAF thread about the Giantbomb day 3 cast I think I’m going to have to pass on it. It sounds like an absolute disaster, shame.

I recall last year a lot of Twitter heroes coming to her defense, but I don’t really remember many on Qt3 defending that disaster. I stopped following her on Twitter long ago after she started talking a bunch of junk about being a huge Yankees fan when they were in the World Series, never mind the fact that she had never once Tweeted anything about the Yankees prior to that. It just bugged me.

Well, some of that “defense force” (from last year and this year) probably looks a lot like that Internet White Knight GIF That I Can’t Post Since I’m New Here.

Beyond that portion, though, I think there was a number of folks who were simply willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. She’s a pretty sharp writer who just seemed to have a lapse in judgment and made some very regrettable comments in a public venue. She made a mistake - happens to everybody, right?

When it happens the second time around, though, it becomes a little bit harder to rationalize. She’s certainly appears to realize she’s bringing attention to herself and it doesn’t look like she seems to mind all that much.

And the constant willingness (joking or not, it doesn’t matter) to play the gender card, especially after her curious response to the whole “Hey Baby” game nonsense, makes it seem like she’s carrying some kind of entitlement for being a woman in the gaming industry.

Most people probably won’t care and will have no problems separating this kind of stuff from her “normal” gaming commentary, but I’ve got to think there’s a segment of potential readers out there, as small as it may be, who are becoming a lot less willing to take her seriously at all. Kinda unfortunate.

She’s clearly attention whoring. I checked her Twitter feed after a buddy commented to me about how self-congratulatory it had been all morning and she’s RT’ing all of the comments from the Leigh Alexander White Knight Defense Force. Weirdly she seems to be taking the position that she’s getting shit for her embarrassing appearance because she’s a woman. That isn’t it for me at all. I recall a particularly awful E3 edition of 1upYours where multiple male guests shouted others down and acted like complete drunken morons. It’s never a good thing for a podcast.

Hah. I decided to go back a year and check to see what the conversation was back then. I imagine you don’t still find her endearing, Steve. One guy said she was one of the most insightful people he’d heard on a podcast in a while. And then a famous person got mad at me.

So there wasn’t as much white knighting as I thought. I guess I figured a bunch of people bashing someone would have been enough for a certain Majkut to come out of the woodwork and point out that Leigh Alexander is FREE so no one is allowed to complain.

John Rowe and I certainly did talk about the P4 Endurance Run a lot, though.

(Popularity leads to intimacy.)

Also, I forgot what a crush you had on Mark McDonald. Who is dreamier, McDonald or Ackles?

It’s about time Leigh Alexander took some shit. I haven’t heard her Bombcast catastrophes since I skip the “lots of drunk people in a room together woooo!” shows, but her articles have a pretty rough People Saying The Article Is Really Good : Actually Being Pretty Lousy ratio.

Who the hell is Leigh Alexander?

Based on what comes up on a Google image search of ‘leigh alexander’, she’s everyone on Myspace.

You’ll note when I made that comment I hadn’t heard the disaster that was the podcast. It was somewhat endearing that she admitted she acted like a moron, but that didn’t make the podcast any better certainly. It appears this time she’s just raging against all of the people who thought she was annoying.

I’d have to go with Ackles as the dreamiest, though Mark McDonald is very close. Mark McDonald guesting on Supernatural would be fantastic.

HA HA! She does have a lot of close up pictures with hair over her eyes, etc.

I was drunk when I started to listen to Giant Bomb E3 Day 3 late last night, but even in that condition I winced at the first sound of Leigh Alexander’s voice. She ruined last year’s episode for that day, and pretty much does so again this year, to slightly less an extent. There was the three-quarters-of-a-billion dollars concert claim, and the fifteen minutes of apologies about last year, and the constant drowning out of everyone else’s input…

I love the Bombcast, but yes, the third E3 show is pretty hard to listen to. There are a lot of interesting guests, but it’s hard to hear them talk amongst the din of the other dozen people talking at the same time.

I found myself really frustrated with this episode. There needs to be more structure in situations like these.

Another note: Podcasters, please top providing mass quantities of alcohol during recordings.

So what’s this year’s “NEVER!”?

I’m only now starting on the day 3 episode. So much stuff!

There isn’t one.

The last three quarters of an hour of that last bombcast episode are pretty good though, Leigh leaves at around 2:12 if you want to avoid her contribution. I thought she was fine barring the maths fail and the somewhat extended apology.

So wait, when people say something in defense of you you shouldn’t respond to them with a thank you or something?

I agree about the oddity of saying it’s because of her gender though. Her non-apologetic tone this time bothers me. (Though granted I haven’t listened to the podcast yet. I’m almost afraid too).

Day 2 has some pretty good jokes involving Jeff Bridges.

We can confirm that Jeff Bridges will not be in You Don’t Know Jack.

That was funny, but it will never be on the level of “Maybe? Never!”

It’s kind of self-centered, but I guess it’s consistent with her behavior on the cast. She went on and on with false apologies, then by the end obviously felt totally vindicated by the positive comments she brought up, leaving with a “haters suck it” or whatever she said.

Then after she left, you could hear her continuing to yammer on with someone else in the same room in the background of the podcast for several minutes. Ugh.

No alcohol next year! And no Leigh Alexander! The best Bombcasts are always sober.

Energy drinks = OK

Beer = Not OK

I think Alcohol in moderation is perfectly fine. It’s amounts to people getting together and talking over a few drinks. Plus a small buzz helps loosen the mood. To much alcohol to the point of drunken rambling/screaming is where the problems come in.

IMHO

Yeah, having 6 or 7 people gathered around doing multiple shots is not a recipe for enjoyable listening.
