they usually have good sound quality. the issue i have with bombcast (and idle thumbs) was that they sometimes do the overlap talking. kinda like hearing a david mamet play… but not really an issue… actually kind of a FEATURE!

btw, green was pretty good on last bombcast! can relate especially to the going out to lunch thing, last place i worked had awesome cafeteria… but sometimes you just want to go out… even if its burger king! and kinda cool to hear the interest in a PC STRATEGY GAME these days… mainly Civ 5. THAT IS COOL.

Spotted this at neogaf, and I’m already eager for more. Great, great podcast, and if the continuation is as good as this, deserving of being in the pantheon of greats such as the Brodeo and Idle Thumbs.

Gaming Influences Episode 1 - John Davison

In the premiere episode of “Gaming Influences” my guest is former GamePro EIC John Davison and we talk about how he got into the industry and his history with the industry and where he thinks both the games industry and gaming media is going.

I tried out the Dragon Quest IX-centric episode and, wow, this point is really true.

Without Parish, the discussion about Tactics Ogre would have been fairly short; a cursory “Matsuno went mad” and discussion of how good Final Fantasy Tactics was.

With him, we get a slew of perspectives on SRPGs before and after Tactics Ogre and who key members of the development team are.

Such a great voice (more figuratively than literal) in gaming journalism.

Sad news - the Brodeo reunion at PAX is off:

Good news - Black Dragon’s dulcet tones can be heard in ep 3 of:

Damn, that sucks! Hope they’ll be able to make it some other time before pax 11.

The hope is that we’ll be able to do it either at PAX East or next PAX Prime.

:(

Huh. John Davidson, Dan Hsu, and Jeff Green. Those are three pretty awesome guests to kick off with in the first three episodes. I’ll check it out. Thanks for posting!

This ruined my day. That’s probably pretty sad, but it’s true.

:(

Thanks for recommending that. Just finished listening to 2 of the episodes and I really liked them. The format of just asking some set questions and letting the interviewee talk is nice. However I do think that the interviewer needs to settle a little and become a bit more comfortable in his role of teasing good answers out of people. He’s still just a little awkward, with a bit of time for interviewer to get comfartable and more interesting guests this could be a really interesting podcast.

He also need to like, introduce himself at the beginning of each podcast. I had to come back to this thread, follow the link again to the blog to figure out his name, despite having listened to all three episodes. I’m not a big fan of the fact he’s basically lifted the closing questions from Inside the Actor’s Studio, either. And that part was pretty rough for the people who don’t have any awareness that it’s coming. I think he’s easing into it, but he needs to be more flexible, maybe make sure guest have a little more foreknowledge of what he’s going to ask, and try to think of a few more unexpected and provocative questions.

Yeah who the heck is this guy? That podcast page is the most uninformative thing ever, especially for a brand new podcast.

I’m worried about potential Splinter Cell fellating by Hsu, but I’m willing to give it a shot. Thanks for the head’s-up!

Splinter Cell doesn’t come up. They don’t really spend much time talking about current, or even recent games.

I’m bummed to hear that the Brodeo reunion is off for this year’s PAX. I was really looking forward to hearing from Sean Molloy again. The rest of the guys have various outlets, but Sean has disappeared from podcasting entirely.

For fans of Gamers with Jobs and/or Podunk’s music, at the end of this week’s episode there’s the full versions of both themes he composed for the cast.

Now I want the MP3s. That guy is seriously good

There’s also a new Gaming Influence episode out

In this episode I chat with Lead Concept Artist at Armor Games & Freelance Reviews Writer at GamePro Media Ashley Riot. We talk about the differences between been on both sides of the games scene. We also share our thoughts on “looks over substance” in regards to female journalists and female developer.

But I have to say that I prefer the original theme to the current one.

Yeah, I thought it was a crime no one asked Sean last year about what it was like to go from huge Blizzard fan to Blizzard employee. Was hoping someone might ask that question this year (assuming he’s still there – I have no idea).

They’re available from Podunk’s website Willowtree Audioworks. They’re under the Demos heading. He has a fair bit of really cool music up there.

Edit: Though I can’t see the latest GWJ theme there, so if thats the tune you’re looking for then I dunno.

Yesterday Idle Thumbs posted a new podcast. No one noticed.
