Any gaming podcasts with some fun GDC discussion this week? I remember some shows change up their format and often capture some interesting stuff. If anyone hears anything cool in one of their regular listens, post up the show, I’d be interested. Could be either developer talk or just Idle Thumbs style ‘cool things i saw’.
I cut way down on podcasts lately due to an influx of audiobooks. I kinda wish curated feeds were a popular thing, where I could subscribe to a feed of ‘best’ episodes of the week that could pull from all gaming podcasts as sources. If anyone wants to give it a shot… http://huffduffer.com
Well, one of the two podcasts that I remember doing that was Idle Thumbs, and I don’t think they’ll be throwing any Conf Grenades this year, though I would love to be surprised. I was very pleased to hear that the guys at Giant Bomb know a Jake at TellTale (I’m assuming right now that it’s Jake Rodkin because that makes me feel good), and they were the other podcast that splooged out an episode a night during one of the conferences while they were operating, so I’d be more hopeful that they would put something out.

I’m pretty sure they were referring to Jake Rodkin as they also referred to Famous Vanaman as well. I know that Ryan and Jeff mentioned they were planning on extensive podcasting from GDC, so I’d definitely check in with those guys all week.

So responding to myself, I did a little searching.
The Brainy Gamer podcast guy is going to carry around little recorder:
So this year I’m bringing my trusty Zoom H4 recorder, and I’ll use it to capture the the sounds of GDC, as well as the people who make the event such an unforgettable experience. I’m not permitted to record formal sessions, but I’ll cover those as posts.
If you’ve listened to my podcasts, you’ll find these audio diaries much more informal and off-the-cuff. My goal is to convey a sense of what it’s like to be at GDC from a single attendee’s perspective, so I’ll hit the record button whenever I find something worth sharing. Then I’ll piece them together with minimal editing, clean up the audio a bit, and post them.
That sounds like it might be cool. What I wouldn’t give to see a surprise Conf Grenade show up on my iTunes…

Video Games and Famous are the two dudes showing off Poker Night in this here video. Brad makes Jake say ‘wizard,’ and it sounds like he wants to die.
Also, Jake showed up at the very end of the Big Live Live Show Live, during the block party, that they did a long time ago.
Also also, according to their twitters, Jake and Chris Remo were at the Giant Bomb office during the last Happy Hour, but weren’t on camera.
Typing all that out makes me feel like a stalker, but I just read the podcast threads on a few forums. Really. Honest. Stop looking at me like that.
The live giant bombcast was epic. Chris Remo was there and did a performance of Space Asshole. Adam Sessler and Patrick Klepak were there too. Lots of my favorite podcasters in one room.

1up’s Games, Dammit has posted the first of 2 or 3 GDC casts. Peter Molyneux kind of dominates the conversation, without, of course, revealing anything. He’s decently entertaining, though.
Bugger. My history file for my catcher vanished last night, so I’ll have to check and see whether I accidentally marked those as received when I rebuilt it this morning.
I’d just heard the opening to that one …
Do they get to asking him what the fuck happened with Fable 3?
Psh, no. None of the 1uppers are very hard hitters. Cf: Kat Bailey almost literally asking the Bioware guy on a recent Dragon Age 2 ATB “How awesome is your game?”

Well, you can watch the recording on the justin.tv link I posted. It starts at around the 16:30 mark, but if you’re waiting for an official release on the Giant Bomb website then you’re right, it isn’t posted yet.
Jeff still hasn’t edited and posted either of the audio GDC bombcasts. He said on twitter he thinks he’ll have them up Friday.
She did go after him a bit on how bad archers apparently were in DA:O. I thought she did a fine interview.
Speaking of female game podcast hosts/guests, I know in the past I’ve been critical of those I can’t stand (Alice Liang, Tina Sanchez, Leigh Alexander), so I want to commend Susan Arendt, guest on the most recent Jumping the Shark. I’m only about 15 minutes into the podcast, but so far I absolutely love her. I don’t usually mind Danielle, but Susan is just awesome.
Susan Arendt might be my new hero. I respect her so damn hard after listening to that podcast.
I thought she did a great job with handling the subjects, though something about her was a teeny bit grating for me …
But I don’t want to let that in any way overshadow how fucking reasonable and practical she seemed to be on most of the subjects that so often send podcasts into some loony, idealistrionic dreamland.
Like the whole Bulletstorm nonsense.
I loved how Susan went after Stacking pretty hard. She didn’t equivocate. She found it to be boring and said so, in no uncertain terms. I couldn’t even get through the Stacking demo because I found it so unbearably tedious, especially the silent movie placards for all the dialog, but have not said so for fear of being burned as a witch.
