More GDC podcast, Eurogamer has a GDC after dark in video and only audio format, 6 short interviews with two developers at the same time.

I use to worship Doublefine but after doing basically 3 bad games in a row, I’m not so much a fan anymore.

The first one is up!

Holy shit. Idle Thumbs did a GDC podcast.

Yay, Idle Thumbs is back!

I agree. Great style, cute silent movie cutscenes, terribly boring gameplay. Schafer is in the wrong industry.

Rarely has a file ever been downloaded harder.

No kidding. I think I peed a little from being so happy at seeing a new Idle Thumbs :)

(Also butts)

My love of Susan Arendt cooled a bit once they got to the topic portion of Jumping the Shark. They were discussing whether or not it’s right to have a press event at a strip club and other similar things as it relates to a woman covering games. Susan was sort of like, “Get over it you whiny whiners,” where Danielle was, justifiably I think, uncomfortable with it. I didn’t like that Susan glossed over what sounds like a hostile work environment to me by saying it doesn’t bother her, so it shouldn’t bother anyone.

That Giantbombcast was pretty good and funny. I wish they would’ve gotten more into the subject that GDC isn’t supposed to be a games showcase but it didn’t seem to bother Adam(?) too much because EA impressed him with their exhibition. Bah.

I’m just listening to this and it’s funny to hear the 1up dudes speak their usual chipmunk speed, mashingwordstogether while Molyneux is so unhurried and measured.

You’re not the only one. I thought she kind of sounded like a d-bag in that segment, too. Her own reasoning wasn’t even internally consistent. She said that if there were strippers actually working there it would be weird, but models in skimpy school girl uniforms were okay. Both are lascivious, so I don’t see the difference except maybe in a matter of degrees.

Has the GWJ Conference Call changed any over the last year or two? I used to listen, but the tone was so pretentious and Cory seemed to be a bigger d-bag each episode. After awhile it got to be too much to handle.

That works, have someone as a guest on your show, and then be a complete asshole to him.

That never happens, unless you are oprah, and it is the Million little pieces guy.

They have to walk a fine line if they want to get guests and coverage.

They don’t walk a fine line at all. He’s just like an older, wiser, friend to them, or something. Giant Bomb talked about this too, their being buddy-buddy with devs. Game coverage doesn’t reach the level of trade journalism, let alone hard-hitting “real” journalism.

Man, great episode. I love those guys.

Can’t wait for the next GDC.

:(

I get that pretentious vibe too, and I don’t like Cory though I still listen to the show. I tend to turn it off earlier than any other show, especially if I’m still listening to it when one I’m more interested goes live. It’s been months since I finished an episode.

There is a guy in the PC Gamer (US) podcast that just rubs me the wrong way to, I can’t remember his name though. Logan, I think? Logan Decker? Not sure, but that guy is a tool of the highest order, though I couldn’t really nail down exactly the why of it.

Heh, Logan is the EIC of PC Gamer US.

Well, obviously they wouldn’t have to go with fuck.

Hell, or maybe shitbag would have also worked.

I dunno, I think that he might be more of a fuck guy.

British dudes can say Fuck in the best way, that and Cunt. Though, maybe I have seen “Snatch” one too many times.

I wish that the gaming press could be assholes like TMZ, and ask the tough questions, but they don’t, because they can’t. Not if they want to keep getting games to cover. Maybe Kotaku will become the TMZ of gaming, they are already halfway there.

The 2nd GDC Bombcastis up. Looks like it was made available today but was recorded 5 days earlier. Wonder what the hold up was.

It probably took a while to filter out all the background noise.
