I didn’t think that there was ever any debate about Itagaki being a dick. It’s pretty much accepted, isn’t it?

Weekend Confirmed is getting to be a bit of a chore sadly. I’m not digging on their guests (or regulars) much.
I’ve been listening to Tested more than anything of late.
I feel like there’s this weird cultural divide I can’t settle into, where podcasters either feel the need to push corny, lazy nerd referential culture to the brain-laziest nth, or bro-it-out so hard to make sure everyone knows they aren’t real nerds.
Very few casts feel comfortable to me. So much forced laughter …
That’s what I really got from GFW/Idle Thumbs/1Up Yours. Comfortable banter. Friends chatting. Something between asleep and always-on.
rabble, grabble
Chemistry is an art.
I’m still enjoying it, despite the relatively frequent appearances by Andrea Rene.
DJ Whatshisface Nerdvoice was sort of annoying last week with the way he dominated the conversation, but I was with him on some of his sentiments. People seemed to be upset that he was crapping on Nintendo, but all he really said was that Nintendo no longer spoke to him and that he was done buying their products. Honestly, I’ve been feeling the same way lately. Now he didn’t do a great job articulating his points sometimes, but the conversation was at least entertaining.
I really like Jeff Mattas when he’s on. He’s got a low key delivery, but I think he does a good job.
I would’ve been more sold on Weekend Confirmed had they made Billy Berghammer a permanent.
There’s definitely a guy who snarked in tune with my podcasting sensibilities.
That might have been complicated by his employment adventures. For an issue or two, he was EIC at the new EGM and then he mysteriously vanished and nobody will talk about it. I don’t know if he had to move out of LA for the job, though.
I felt a little retro listening to Retronauts this week, cuz it’s not live! Thank Christ! I also felt retro because Jeremy Parish is again giving up hosting :(. I hope they drop the live format for good; either that, or screen callers heavily so there’s no more dead air.
I hope the Debriefings replacement goes well. It probably depends on how much they ask in contributions for an episode.

IGN did a great job on their latest Nintendo podcast handling live callers. No hitches, no annoying call waiting, no ringing, it just worked. Since the 1up guys are in the IGN offices now, hopefully they can fix Retronauts if they continue doing it live.
This weeks’ Bombcast (8/2) might be the worst since the Leigh Alexander shout fest. Just awful. Extremely boring forays into a myriad of tangentially related game topics and not interesting discussion at all. It was like listening to a lunch conversation about work. Really bad. They spent so long on garbage that they didn’t even get to emails. Do not listen.
Unfortunately I think this is partially due to the summer lull. They just don’t have much gaming-related stuff to talk about, yet seem to want to keep the podcasts around the 2 hour mark. I’m feeling it across the gaming podcasts I listen to --they’re all hashing up the same few games. If I have to hear one more protracted discussion about Bastion or From Dust…
That said, the previous week’s discussion about Vinny’s tortilla press was worth it for Jeff’s “What taco? How taco?” line. For some reason that made me laugh so hard I almost wrecked my car.
I thought the Giantbomb was okay, and I agree with Steve they talked a lot about nothing. I was mostly disapointed as I thougth there would be a lot more news to talk about, what with the Diablo 3 reveals (wich they talked about LAST and only briefly) and some other big news thing I can’t remember now while I’m typing this. SIGH.
Gamescoop was pretty funn, the end had me choking I was laughing so hard. Literally, it was a bad time to take a swig of beverage when one of them said “I Am Legend”. Out of context that won’t make sense, but I don’t really want to describe the entire thing here… :)
While it was no where as bad as a drunk Alexander podcast, it was a weak episode. At least Jeff wasn’t there complaining about having to play video games. I think it was an hour and a half before they got into news.
I love the summer podcasts because of the tangents.
I usually like the Bombcast tangents as well. Like Jamie, I loved the previous week’s episode. I don’t need all game talk, all the time, trust me. This week’s episode is just criminally boring. It really sounded like a protracted lunch conversation about inside baseball work topics, but even less interesting.
Speaking of podcasts - what with this being the gaming podcast thread, and all - is anybody listening to The Indoor Kids? It’s a gaming podcast from Nerdist hosted by funny young comedian Kumail Nanjiani, and rather than a press-style roundtable, it’s more of a free-form discussion on the importance of gaming to people’s lives. There’s only been four eps so they’re still finding their feet, but so far I like it. Kumail’s got a weird perspective on gaming, in that he was (like many of us, I suspect) an “indoor kid” who preferred games to, say, sports, but living in Pakistan as a kid meant that all the games he played were bootlegs or clones. In the most recent one, he has a couple great stories of hanging out with his richer cousin, who would let him watch - but not play - his SNES.
I’m willing to try anything new at this point.
I’ll check that out. Nerdist has been launching lots of new 'casts recently. I like Making it with Riki Lindhome (of Garfunkle and Oats fame) and I just downloaded the first episode of the Writers Panel podcast they started. Be interested to see what their game podcast is like.
Jeff is one funny mother!
Jeff wasn’t there, which certainly didn’t help things.
Anyone catch Weekend Confirmed from last weekend? I just finished what I cared to of it. Garnett just completely lost his shit when talking about Diablo 3’s auction house. Way to be an objective and informed journalist. Holy fuck. Embarrassing.
