I used to listen to 1up, when there were fewer choices out there, and always found his propensity to fly off the handle while at the same time being completely wrong, obnoxious.

But, I haven’t listened in years, maybe he is better, but I certainly have not missed those shows or his presence.

Ahh, okay. That part didn’t stick in my head.

Downloaded JtS again and it worked fine. Cheers.

BlueJackalope, skip Weekend Confirmed then. There isn’t the balance that called Garnett out in the 1up days. WC is pure Garnett Lee :) .

There is no Luke Smith or Shane Bettenhausen to take Garnett to task, but Cannata and now Xav don’t let him get away with being a tool. Garnett also seems pretty sensitive to internet reaction and I think that has tempered his dumber fly-off-the-handle-while-being-wrong moments. Even the recent Diablo 3 kerfluffle was no big deal with Garnett recognizing right away that his reaction was overblown and apologizing for same.

I’d long-held that Garnett was personally insufferable but generally managed to produce a good show and get together good personalities …

But I couldn’t keep listening to Weekend, even as desperate as I’ve been for podcast material.

He’s somehow managed to amp up whatever that fucking thing is he does - as if he previously had some sort of editorial demon keeping his more flagrant excesses in check, but is now free to twit-out constantly, and remonstrations from co-hosts now tend to only make him act-out all the more.

'Cause when nobody finds it charming, it’s because you weren’t doing it hard enough.

Haven’t listened lately, so I’ll have to take Steve’s word on the recent revelation.

Course, I also can’t perceive Bettenhausen as a mitigating influence on a podcast. If anything, I would’ve imagined Garnett’s proximity to His Royal Nasal Drip might have somewhat outshined his own flares.

Towards my own resignation of the show, the episodes with Berghammer were the only ones I could handle.

Also … And I expect this will touch someone’s righteous indignation … But there’s been some minute aspect of Garnett which has somehow always reminded me of Leo Laporte … Some fractional element of his voice …

I get this visual of Leo talking.

I know.

Will Smith from Tested does the same …

God, I remember TWIT being such a great podcast. Then came Twitter…

Even a cursory examination of this thread will reveal a ton of bitching about Shane back when he podcasted regularly with Garnett. He was always entertaining though. Leaving that aside, he and Luke used to almost fight over who got to chide and/or smack Garnett down first.

I’m willing to stand alone on this, though. There is something about Garnett that I find endearing. He’s not the most polished or the quickest witted, but he’s got an earnestness and an enthusiasm that I enjoy.

Oh god, you are right! damn you!

sex repository? Is that how the kids are talking these days? ugh

I can’t believe you guys spend so much time discussing a podcast as mediocre as Weekend Confirmed. It has the same acronym as “water closet” for a reason!

So, what’s the new edgy/funny gaming podcast now that Debriefings is gone?

It’s Brian.

Sorry. Relieved it’s not just me, anyhow.

So is there an aggregate post somewhere in this thread with a list of current gaming podcasts? I’m starting to use podcasts as my background radio as I work, and I’ve gone thru most of the Qt3 ones and I am making headway on the Three Moves Ahead. Though for that latter one, I find not as much of it is applicable, as I’m not enough of a grognard.

If you’re just listening to random podcasts in order with no regard to how out of date they may be, you should download all 87 available episodes of Idle Thumbs. Or if you want to go more advanced, check out NeoGAF’s 1up Podcast Preservation Society and grab torrents of the entire run of CGW Radio/GFW Radio/The Brodeo. It’s all very, very out of date and there’s plenty of stuff that they’ll say about the future that is in your past and will strike one as hilariously wrong, but it’s still probably one of, if not the, best gaming podcasts ever made. Paired with Idle Thumbs, you’ll end your listening trek deeply sad that neither is still produced.

Stumbled across this rarely updated podcast: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/cdc-podcast/id415241874

Pretty good GDC panel coverage.

So the gang behind the Gamespy Debrief and Comedy Button made well over six times their stated goal. Have they released any statements or commented on when we can expect to start seeing the comedy button being pressed? The Kickstarter has an ‘update’ tab, but it’s empty.

I haven’t heard anything lately, but their launch date was always October, though I’ll admit that the past couple of weeks I’ve just breezed past all of Bromley’s twitter noise on account of it kind of exploded from ten or twelve a week to over a hundred. If they’re going to be doing sketch stuff, they’ll need some lead-up to write and film in. I just hope that Max is more entertaining on this show than he is on Destructoid, if it’s the same Max that hosts their video show with Tara Long. I mean, he’s not bad, but he just feels like a really weird fit on that show, and since he never talks about farting during sex or why only congenitally retarded Wisconsinites would think that Panda Express was a good idea (fast Chinese food! insanity!), I don’t have a very good feel for how he’s going to fit in with the rest of the group.

It’s pretty rough living in a world that Shawn Elliott and Jeff Green no longer get to comment on. Same goes for Chris Remo/Jake Rodkin.

Yeah, it fuckin’ sucks. I’m tired of getting just superficial discussions of every game. Not to mention that most of what passes for “humor” on podcasts is just embarrassing. Unfortunately, people who are good at breaking down how the mechanics of a game work together to create a cool experience or why a certain narrative technique is really effective are probably interested in making games and won’t have much trouble getting hired. We’re doomed to live in a world where truly good podcasts never last long enough because the people involved are too talented to “waste” their time making free internet radio shows forever.

[Having said all that there are still a bunch of podcasts I enjoy, even if they don’t satisfy in the same way Idle Thumbs or GFW Radio did.]
