Oh no! 8-4 Play says Shane Bettenhausen is unemployed! I hope he ends up back at 1up/IGN.

These are kind words, and thank you. About your last sentence, I can tell you that neither Shawn nor I would have left if Ziff-Davis hadn’t been about to implode and had not been managed by incompetent fuckwits. It was heartbreaking but ultimately the ONLY decision to be made. Had the company actually known what to do with all the talent, known how to monetize, and known how to manage their assets, I imagine that LOTS of us would still be there, as those were incredibly fun times for all of us, too.

I saw on his Twitter feed last week that he was leaving Ignition. It wasn’t clear if he left on his own or was canned.

Jeremy Parish just told me via 1up direct message that Shane has a new job already.

Maybe he’s joining Camoflaj.

Is anybody really shocked at this point? The impression that I’ve been getting with all the news about them is that Ignition is kind of going away as an entity, and since Shane’s primary job seems to have been Hype-Man in Chief and Disney already has an army of those, I’m just glad to hear that he landed on his feet.

I think Shane acted as a hype man only because as someone with a lot of experience as a game journalist, he had unique access to outlets and could garner interest from gamers by appearing on podcasts, etc. I think his real job was finding and evaluating games for Ignition to publish.

As a devoted fan of the Brodeo, hearing this makes the demise of the podcast even harder to take :(

If you like yourself some Jeff Green, be sure to check out this year’s PAX edition of the Pach-Attack. Jeff is featured in the third segment.

Wait, that OLD guy?

He’s rocking the full Reed Richards side-gray. Quite the silver fox!

Brian Reynolds appears onthis week’s Three Moves Ahead along with Rob, Troy, and summer intern Soren Johnson to talk Alpha Centauri. I’m 2/3 of the way through and it’s making me want to play Rise of Nations.

Well, there goes my day.

Curse you Microsoft just sign a deal with GOG already.

If we had money, I would pay Soren to stay with us. He’s the new Tom.

Three Moves Ahead is so good.

How much would it take? I have a bunch of slightly used consumer electronics, computer bits, and games you could try to bribe him with.

As always, you and Rob do a great job.

Agreed. It’s the only gaming podcast I still listen to.

“Diamond” Troy Goodfellow and the boyz

Nice to be an exclusive.

It’s the best professional thing I’ve ever been associated with, and it hurt a little to yield first chair to Rob but it had to be done. I’m very happy with how he has handled the show, put his own stamp on it, and the audience has responded well, too. It’s a thrill to see the audience still growing, but more important to not be bored doing it, even though some times there is still that last minute panic.

Maybe for show 150 we can have all the old gang on and I can do the intro again. Rob still needs panache.
