But there’s some guy in Ohio who doesn’t have an Internet connection!!

Yeah, I thought that was awesome. In my mind he was talking directly about Arthur Gies’ 4.5/5 review over at Joystiq. At best Gies thinks the SP campaign is mediocre, though his review makes it sound even worse than that:

So a big chunk of the game is a mess, but it’s still the equivalent of a 9/10 experience? Huh. I’m all for letting the text speak for itself and not putting too much stock into the number appended to a review, but one of these things is clearly not like the other. Hell, I relied on Gies’ review of the SP campaign when I decided to cancel my preorder.

Thanks for the links, Matt. The Eurogamer one is the most damning for sure. Sounds like some shenanigans going on. Even if there wasn’t anything shady, it sure looks shady from the outside. I’m left to speculate that outlets that received PC code worked out some deal with EA or were at least thought to be good bets for early good reviews, buzz and Metacritic average. I mean, EA can’t really have “run out” of codes for the game, right?

Over the entire 20 minutes that went on, Garnett’s argument never made a lick of sense. I still don’t know what the hell he was so hot and bothered about. I get sticking up for people that don’t have an internet connection, but that didn’t even seem to be his main point. I don’t know what the heck his point was, and I don’t think Cannata ever figured it out either. Regardless, his entire argument was blown apart when, as you pointed out, he admitted that he hadn’t even played the game. Cannata did bust him down on that saying, “I’d expect you to say that [the Catwoman content was central to the game] given that you haven’t played the game.”

Jesus God, that Comedy Button 'cast is horrible. The schtick was funny when it was supposed to be gaming podcast in the Debriefing days (although even then I eventually got tired of it), but now it’s just Bromley mistaking yelling for comedy. I couldn’t make it more than five minutes in.

Given how much I hate the most popular comedy podcasts (your Joe Rogans and Adam Carrolas), I predict Comedy Button will be hugely popular.

I can’t stand Adam Carolla but I enjoyed the Comedy Button. Though a lot of that was just leftover enjoyment of the personalities from the Debriefing. It’s possible that once they start doing skits and such my interest will wane quickly.

From the Bombcast Jeff explicitly said they got their PC code 1 minute before embargo broke, despite asking for it for weeks ahead of time, when other sites got it. Seems pretty obvious to me that EA withheld PC codes from sites that they thought would give less than a 90% or so. Between that and the fact that console code wasn’t available for review at launch (which is less sinister and more to do with a large day one patch), there was some pretty serious manipulation of the metacritic score at launch, purposefully or not.

This kind of manipulation (GTA4’s 98% says hi) needs to start being punished by reviewers and readers more, as it’s increasingly hard to stop people in the industry from using it when it’s so effective.

Ugh. I was actually considering downloading that episode to listen to the Batman: AC talk.

About this week Weekend Confirmed, just have to say don’t drink and podcast what a train wreck.

Unlike many on this thread I’m still enjoy the weekend confirmed podcast but just don’t return to the bad drunken podcasts, even in the 1up days every time someone exceed the drinking limit it was a recipe for disaster.

Not true; I have Geekbox via RSS and didn’t get either one. Thanks for pointing out TCB.

Here’s the RSS feed for IGN’s Game Business Show. http://feeds.ign.com/ignfeeds/podcasts/gamebizshow/

Joystiq Halloween whatever episode that just showed up has Justin (McElroy - too many justins in games), Chris, and Ludwig talking about it to some extent, though they get derailed into other release shenanigans.

I started listening to this episode this morning. When I heard that Andrea Renee was on, I was very disappointed. When she announced they decided to drink during the episode I was pretty worried Andrea would turn into drunken Leigh Alexander and be more annoying than she usually is. So far it hasn’t been nearly as bad as I expected.

I stumbled across Jonathan Coulton and John Hodgeman covering E3 2005 in a 3 part podcast – a delight!

For your listening pleasure, the guys putting together the Best Of series now present Idle Thumbs, a six hour recap of the best of Remo, Rodkin and Breckon.

PS fuck Nick.

I’ve been listening sporadically to the Idle Thumbs back catalog, and it’s amazing how relevant they still are. Someone needs to pick up the mantle of extremely litterate gaming podcast, all the absurd humor was just a bonus.

It’s basically a dream come true knowing that all these brilliant guys who had the most intelligent commentary on the industry (and were funny as can be) are almost all working on my most anticipated game for 2012. I hope they have as much influence on Bioshock Infinite as possible.

There is a thumb shaped hole in my heart, the doctors call it an atrial septal defect. But I know what it really is.

That’s some back of the box quote material there. +1.

I think Andrea Renee is awful when she’s not drunk so, predictably, when she’s drunk I despise her. It was still worth listening to the podcast to hear Cannata and Xav make fun of Andrea’s drunken rambling. I think she was sober enough to understand their mocking of her because she did pipe down.

Some guy named Brad Grenz got his email read on the latest Giant Bombcast.

Mmm… I only have 2 posts here, but I listen to the Qt3 Podcast religously…
It’s the best one that I’ve found yet. Haha. And because it’s so long I can enjoy it for the whole day.

Oh, so YOU’RE the one downloading it!
