The wizaaaaAAAaaaard!

Why did Remo move back to San Francisco? Is he not with Irrational any more?

No, neither is Steve “Hot Scoops” Gaynor.

Bummer. I assume.

!!!

I don’t want to sound happy for what could have been a weird experience working for irrational and things may not have ended well. Or maybe video games making wasn’t Chris’s cup of tea.

Holy crap new idle thumbs would be the best x-mas present ever. They should work on doing something together, maybe a Giant Bomb style video game content generation machine?

That’s awesome. I hope that Chris & Steve left on their own terms, but I’m REALLY excited for the possibility of new Thumbs podcasts.

I like the Christopher Nolan Batman better.

Really hope this Idle thumbs podcast return rumors are true. I doubt they can make Idle Thumbs a full time job, but wouldn’t be suprised if Chris Remo was going to join the new video game site by The Verge company, that has hired half the Joysitq team. I think that would not exclude him doing the podcast on the side.

God, but I love Vinny Caravella. After twenty minutes of Brad whining to get rid of Batman and then whining to get rid of Deus Ex 3 and then whining to keep Dead Space 2, it was nice that Vinny just said, “I think Dark Souls is better than anything else on this list, but if you guys want to get rid of it that’s okay.” God bless you, Vinny.

I figured something was up when seven random previous Idle Thumbs and The Idle Thumbs Podcasts were belched unceremoniously into my incoming folders yesterday because somebody changed something in the RSS XML. That is definitely a thing I would listen to. Though, now, as always, fuck Nick, who I assume is still at Bethesda and, as such, won’t be making any appearances outside of maybe the Conf Grenades.

As for Gaynor…has he always known Justin McElroy? Because I’m paging through the three hundred odd tweets that have built up since I last bothered to clear that queue and they talk to each other a whole bunch and Justin just left Joystiq. And apparently he took his funny brother and Chris Grant both with him.

And then I started the Bombcasts.

The only question I have is, is Brad ever right? Because I’m listening to him be entirely wrong about new characters right now and it’s kind of grating on me.

I think Vinny is the best part of the Bombcast, which is saying a lot. Maybe it’s because he’s never sitting in the host chair and thus doesn’t feel like he has to just say anything to kill dead air, but he seems to me to be the most consistently sharp witted and funny one.

QFT

Contrast that with Brad’s vehement “Am I really gonna be the only fucking one arguing for Skyrim at this table!”(paraphrasing) and the brief awkward silence that greeted that statement. I normally like his contributions to the podcast but he just comes across as stroppy in the GOTY discussions.

Did anyone else catch Jeff’s “Don’t you fucking politicize things this early in the process!” comment to Brad? I think they all know (and are okay with) how the sausage is made, but that comment really made me arch one eyebrow.

Yeah, Brad pretty much does this every year.

I like his reviews and enjoy him on the regular Bombcasts, but goddamn is he terrible on the GOTY podcasts, and you can hear the weariness in the room when he starts in on a game. Seriously, dude. If it was entertaining, it’d be one thing. It isn’t. You can almost hear the resignation in the voices of Vinny and Jeff when Brad starts in on this stuff.

Yep, I caught that. It was made in regards to Brad saying that if MK made the final ten list, then any game that shipped with bugs should be given a pass if fixed. You could tell that Jeff knew that Brad in saying that was positioning Skyrim (which is my GOTY, but I think they make a very good case that for the spirit and sense of Giant Bomb that SR3 should be their’s) for #1 on the list due to that.

I’m still plowing through the first day of Giant Bomb deliberations and Brad is already annoying. His method seems to be to rag on all of the nominees before getting to trumping up the one he wants to win. While the other guys take much more of a measured and even approach (so far this year and in the past) Brad is more like a petulant child, deriding, sometimes unfairly and hypocritically, any nominee that is not his pick.

I watched the Giant Bomb overall top ten video this morning and when I saw Dead Space 2 was number five on the list I knew Brad must’ve kicked up quite a stink about it because, to my memory, it didn’t make any of the other guys’ top ten list. Not exactly a consensus pick, ya know?

Also, I’m ecstatic at the possibility that Idle Thumbs is coming back. I hope things ended amicably for Gaynor and Remo at Irrational.

Brad wasn’t alone on the Dead Space 2 love, actually. I think at least Vinny loved it and neither Ryan nor Jeff objected except to make fun of the exploding babies. I’m kind of surprised it’s that high, too, but only because I think it was only a good game and not a fantastic one.

I didn’t mean to make any comment on the quality of Dead Space 2. I played around 6 to 8 hours of it, but never finished it. I was just surprised to see a game at #5 on the overall top ten list that hadn’t been mentioned on the Bombcast since it came out and wasn’t in anyone else’s personal top ten other than Brad’s.

Greg Kasavin placed Dead Space 2 in his personal top ten list. That should carry some weight.
