Joe Martin’s bite size podcast is pretty fantastic. http://joemartinwords.com/podcast/

Really nice themed episodes with great guests like Dan Pinchbeck, Jon St John, Kieron Gillen, and Rob Briscoe. Definitely check it out if you’re looking for a UK cast.

Ooh, you weren’t exaggerating, that one really is fantastic. Thanks for the recommendation! It’s like a longer, clearer, better version of GWHKAL which might still be worth a listen once you’ve burned through all of Joe Martin’s Unlimited Hyperbole (which I suspect I will in no time).

The PC Gamer UK podcast was great. It was a little more subdued than, say, Idle Thumbs, and it took a bit of time to grow on me but it quickly became a favorite. They had the best Bioshock Infinite discussion around, both genuinely insightful and hilarious. “Sorry I’m chain-gunning your ghost-mom Elizabeth!”

I’m very happy to see at least some of the members are able to continue podcasting. Check it. http://crateandcrowbar.com/

And just as suddenly as I discovered Unlimited Hyperbole (thanks to Mr Tibbs above), I had to discover today that it has ended. :-(

What a bummer! It was nice while it lasted. I’ll have to check out that Tom Francis podcast. He’s a fantastic writer and Gunpoint is absolutely brilliant.

Oh my. Downloading now. Thanks Jon!

Jon and Dirk are joined by Brian Reynolds, designer of ‘Civilization 2’, ‘Alpha Centauri’, ‘Rise of Nations’ and more. They discuss Brian’s career as a designer, his approach, what makes ‘Alpha Centauri’ stand up so many years later, and Brian’s future projects.

I want to second the Crate & Crowbar as a very fun and interesting podcast to listen to. I thought the discussion about X-Plane was especially funny.

That episode is awesome. Everyone convince Brian Reynolds to kickstart Rise of Nations 2!

I keep throwing my money at the monitor but nothing happens.

I listened to this right after the Julian Gollop podcast and I have to say, podcasting sure looks easy when you get guests who will just TALK like those two. Fun to listen to both, though.

Thanks guys! And apologies for the slightly-misleading description for the episode with Brian. We ran into some technical difficulties later in the podcast and didn’t get around to talking about his current project. Don’t feel too bad though, he said he couldn’t really say anything more than what’s already publicly known.

  • Jon

Yeah, that was great, Jon, and revealing, too. Did anyone else realize Brian was responsible for getting Zynga’s games to make money? I figured he was hired to bring traditional game design values to a big casual games company. The man must have one of the most diverse resumes in the industry.

What’s BR working on now?

Oooo. Awesome. My only gaming podcast has been Three Moves Ahead, but this Jon Shafer one looks like it has lots of good stuff. And now I’ve got ~162 pages of good podcast discussion to skim. :)

Thanks QT3ers!

This week on my podcast we had a two hour cast on horror design and the differences between AAA developers and Indies and why the latter are now producing the majority of horror games. Which somehow turned into a spoiler free discussion on environmental design in Demon’s and Dark Souls.

Steve Gaynor - lead designer of Gone Home - has a new podcast on the Idle Thumbs network called Tone Control. It’s an open discussion on game design with industry veterans. The first episode was with Walking Dead lead designers (and Idle Thumbs) Sean Vanaman and Jake Rodkin. Lots of great behind the scenes info on The Walking Dead, and some great future guests announced, including Clint Hocking!

Steve Gaynor’s a great host. I’m really looking forward to the Craig Hubbard episode. That guy is a legend!

Hmm, above someone mentioned the PC Gamer UK podcast being gone-- now it looks like the US one is on the ropes–there hasn’t been a new episode since October 8th.

I keep checking every day for some sign of life… Shame.
