I finished last week’s ListenUp yesterday. I thought their E3 “predictions” at the end were extremely annoying. There was all kinds of snarky hiding of the ball, where you could tell they knew about a ton of stuff they weren’t allowed to talk about. It really sucked to listen to them dance around stuff while they audibly winked and giggled at each others’ shared knowledge. It’d have been better to have ditched the whole prediction portion if they were in on every “surprise” coming up.
Yeah it was kind of worthless. I’ve been trying to clear out my backlog as much as possible before e3, and impending truckload of podcasts sigh
I am looking forward to G4’s video of the upcoming E3 ListenUp episode. It wasn’t clear to me if that was going to be broadcasted on G4TV, or just available online. I think the latter. Either way, Mark MacDonald is going to be there. He’s so dreamy.

I was thinking of going back to listen to that segment. Thanks for advising me not to. It’s probably the same story from most professional podcasts, but I’m still tempted to check-out Gamespy’s episode with predictions as I loves me some Ryan Scott and Anthony Gallegos. I just hope that other male editor isn’t on. He needs to learn when to stop talking (to put it as bluntly as possible.)

Man, the guy from GamePro on the latest ListenUp is amazingly annoying. I normally don’t complain, but he’s really made me come close to turning the show off. Shrill and annoying without providing anything interesting to the discussion.
I saw that the most recent ListenUp is three hours long and elected not to download it. The number one problem with that show is that it goes on fucking forever for no reason at all. I’m okay with Giant Bomb going on for two hours because it’s funny and they have several distinct segments. ListenUp has “have an endless, directionless discussion of games we played this week,” followed by “yammering on about news for fucking ever without having much in the way of meaningful commentary.”
I mainly listen to ListenUp to hear John Davidson talk about the latest iPhone games.

I agree. But only cuz I think that iPhone games should be ghettoed off for the sake of the majority. I still don’t know why people game on that thing; I’ve tried a couple titles and don’t feel like I’m missing anything. The device is prohibitively expensive for most people, and locked to a carrier, so why do we have to suffer through coverage for it?
If ListenUp is lacking in anything, it’s PC game coverage.
Yeah, John Davison’s single iPhone game of the week is so much coverage that the rage fills me and sometimes I just want to go outside and rape a Volkswagen.
Well, they’ve sold just about as many iPhones as PS3s. So there’s that. Way more iPhones out there than DSis, yet people insist on talking about DSi-ware. It’s almost as if ListenUp was some kind of gaming podcast. For games.
Sure, a lot of iPhones are out there, but it seems to me that most people don’t play games on it, judging from my MBA and law school classmates, among whom the iPhone is very popular. ListenUp’s treatment is just extra one-sided coverage on a limited, underused platform, on a podcast that’s too long as it is. I hear from the cast that others have complained too, so I’m not alone.
Well shucks, I ain’t got no fancy MBA and law school classmates, hoss, but I do got a lick of common sense what says to me that ListenUp’s coverage boils down to one guy talking about one game and a fairly short conversation that follows and anyone seriously getting bent out of shape about five minutes of conversation about something they aren’t interested in should probably not be allowed out in public.
Wooh! So many message board overreacting acts rolled up into a single couple posts! And classism to boot! But at least you admit the coverage is superficial. It doesn’t really fit with the rest of the podcast, and because it doesn’t apply to most listeners, I say 1UP should kick it out. But this is just a podcast discussion thread, of course. I’m not exactly what you’re looking for when you complain that his coverage is ‘one sided’. Are you looking for something more fair and balanced? Should John Davison have someone providing a counterpoint on how iPhone Peggle is actually bad?
