DSi-ware is different. It’s a new download service on a new traditional gaming portable. It’s completely within the scope of 1up.com and the podcast itself. Should the site not cover any new console or platform until it’s sold millions?

And yes, if more than one person on the podcast had actually played the iPhone games, I imagine that would improve the talk about it. John’s increasingly becoming removed from what’s considered a hardcore gamer, and that’s affected his opinions about games (to the extent that he even plays the games discussed), so corroboration would be nice.

I just figure if the podcast is going to cover something, it should do it right or not at all. And it’s too long as it is, so don’t do it! The iPhone’s being a closed platform doesn’t help.

ListenUp does get meandering, particularly in the “what you been playing” section. The majority of that problem would be solved if they would just not talk about a game that they just spent like 45 minutes discussing the previous week. I don’t care that someone else on the podcast is now playing it. You’re not saying anything new! I typically skip ahead 15 minutes at a time looking for a new topic.

Me and my coworkers game on our iphones a lot. So the coverage is fine by me.

They need to vet their guest hosts’ tolerance to alcohol. As the podcast wore on, it got more and more apparent to me that he was wasted, until at some point someone commented on it.

I think something similar happened on one of the GDC podcasts, where they had some developer on who was trashed and it made the show unlistenable.

On the other hand, some of the shows where the hosts have been drunk have been very entertaining to me (the E3 shows come to mind), so I just think it’s a matter of knowing how well someone handles their booze and what it does to them.

Giant Bomb’s E3 prediction special was pretty good. I really hope J. Allard comes out on stage during Microsoft’s now to show off the new Zune stuff.

Speaking of E3 perdictions. I’m really hoping for an Avatar [ James Cameron ] reveal at MS press conference.

Garnett don’t know shit about PC gaming all of a sudden, it seems. And WoW selling PS3s? Really? Really? Ah, but I nit-pick.

As for Gaming Podcasts. This weeks 1up Listen up- podcast was pretty much the first one I’ve ever listened to. It’s 3 hours of splendid discussion, now I’m gonna go and listen to some earlier ones.

how are the 1up podcasts since the layoffs? are they worth listening to?

Well, I can’t really say much, since today was my first. But from what I’ve been listening to, for the last 3 hours. I’d say, it really is something not to miss.

ListenUP has been ok. They lack a certain spark though and still seem to be trying to find their new groove.

Retronauts is, as usual, infrequent, but still good. ListenUp is still worth the listen as well. Good Grief is pretty entertaining, and I love any podcast including Sharkey. At1UP – I don’t listen to it much, but the few I’ve listened to are kind of like a compacted Geekbox, and I like Mike and Jade.

the only ones I listen to regularly are Retronauts and ListenUP, though.

The Pod Touch isn’t much more than a DSi. I like the coverage, and the sneering about iPod Game of the Week when Davidson mentions something is becoming more annoying each week.

I don’t think you realize how many people actually have iPhones, let alone iPod Touchs. Maybe not so much in smaller and remote towns where there is no cell service for them (my old town didn’t accomodate iPhones; it was waiting on Rogers Wireless), but there are TONS of people in the Greater Vancouver (BC, Canada) area with the things.

Personally, I can’t afford one and won’t be able to for a while, but I like hearing those segments just because it’s always something different from the usual, generic triple-A crap.

The complaining about how iPhone games aren’t real games is a billion times more annoying than the minimal coverage. I’d actually rather they talked about them more, as the iPhone is pretty much the most interesting handheld gaming platform at this point.

For me personally, Good Grief is ruined by Teenah, and At1UP is ruined by Jade.

(no I’m not sexist, they just have horrible radio voices! and…opinions)

To each their own. I like Jade.

I started listening to this this morning and it’s been very enjoyable. It’s devoid of that self-satisfied knowing-but-not-telling smarm that was the hallmark of the previous week’s (I haven’t listened to this past week’s 3 hour epic yet) ListenUp “prediction” show.

I love Giant bomb these days. I so now want J. Allard to show up.

On the Moon!
