Yeah as much as I’d LIKE to listen to Out of the Game, I have a really hard time doing so. I guess I’m spoiled by decent audio production now, because the raw Skype format really doesn’t work for me. Too much talking over each other, inconsistent volume levels, etc. It’s a shame, because I like the content. I still am subscribed to the podcast, and fire it up on occasion, but not for very long.

I really enjoy the out of the game podcasts and well unedit skype ins’t really a problem if you are Leo Laporte (TWIT network), but is got a very expensive set-up, I hope they can find a not very expensive solution. For starters the guy with the best wired connection should do the recording and some nice microphones, although there were improvements on this front .

They can fix the volume pretty easily, that doesn’t have anything to do with Skype.

P4 Endurance Run:

I really would like to enervate Rise. I can’t believe I’d ever say this, but I miss Teddie’s narration. It’s like the game makers realized you’d get tired of having one announcer the whole game, but inadvertently made the problem worse.

Question: Did they forget there already was an official EA Podcast?

You did it, Yosuke-senpai!

Nice move, Yukiko-senpai!

That’s three, Chie-senpai!

They’re chargin’ their laser, Sensei-senpai!

Senpai senpai, senpai!

Though as each dungeon gets longer, the videos get a little harder to watch. The meat of the story and the funniest commentary happens outside of the dungeons. Also, when they complain about how SP intensive some of the fights have been (I’m in the late 70s, early 80s now, the video game dungeon) I almost want to comment to them that it’s because they’re handling their spell use in a totally ass backwards way!

Mine’s even more official!

Remember in Spinal Tap when they were first called “The Originals” and then found out there was another band with that name so they changed to “The New Originals”? It’s like that.

BTW, did anyone find that the latest Joystiq podcast (at least through iTunes) is all dead air (or was. I deleted, unsubbed, resubbed, then redownloaded, and now it’s fine)?

I finally got back to Gamers With Jobs, checking in on the June 10th episode which featured a good amount of Red Faction talk (liked!) and a good amount of Corey Banks (do NOT like). Something about Banks just irritates the hell out of me. It always seems like he’s looking for something shitty to say or someone to disagree with. Having contrary opinions is great, but being contrarian is just obnoxious.

A good example of this was during the discussion of E3 where the guys were saying that a lot of the show’s games seemed to be reboots. Instead of discussing the games as they came up (Metroid, Splinter Cell, etc.) he had to crab about whether or not each game was in fact a reboot under his personal definition. That little example really highlights why I don’t like the guy at all. In addition, he’s always more than willing to admit that he doesn’t know about/hasn’t played some topic/game before giving his uninformed, and usually caustic opinion about it. He really ruins the show for me.

I am so angry at the way they play the game. It is like they can’t remember anything. “Do we have that persona?” “Yeah, remember, we fused it!”

NO!! You just looked at it on the fusing screen!! Gah!!!

They also waste SP like Mofos. Partially, because they somehow feel the need to put every god-damned damage spell on every god damned persona they make. SPECIALIZE!

You have 12 slots for a reason!!! You don’t need just one persona to do all of your work!

But, then, they have lines that make me giggle for hours… so I keep watching.

Yo!!! Fitty-senpai!! Hit that jump! (I also want to punch Rise in the ovaries)

The point of the Endurance Run isn’t to play the game well. It’s to be entertaining. Limping through the game probably adds to the experience versus just running through it.

I guess I don’t understand getting mad about sub-optimal playing.

True.

But it isn’t entertaining when they make the same mistakes over and over and spend way too much time dungeoneering. They make the same mistakes over and over, and it gets grating.

My roommate got Persona 4 and has almost caught up to them story-wise and is only 25 hours in. They really take their time in the dungeons.

Also, watching them fuse personas incorrectly over and over again, only to have to continue checking and re-checking their stuff can get annoying.

It comes down to, I don’t care if they don’t play well… but the game is very punishing towards bad gameplay. And it is hard to be entertaining during the same battles over and over again/running out of SP and having to leave to come back to fight things again.

It is like watching someone do a play well, but in a poor setting. Sure the play itself is good and funny, but having a better set would have made it so much better.

It doesn’t anger me that much, but after watching 45+ hours of the same mistakes over and over again it gets on your nerves.

Also Spoilers:
That Chie payoff was really… underwhelming. The whole dating sim aspect of the game seems broken… as there is nothing to do when you reach the top. (At least from what we have seen so far)

Especially since he gets a handy from the nurse right off.

What the hell, Chie?

What would you do?

They’re improving significantly as they play. They aren’t using guides either. Mistakes are inevitable, especially since neither of them are JRPG fans.

Also, watching them fuse personas incorrectly over and over again, only to have to continue checking and re-checking their stuff can get annoying.

Incorrectly? Do you mean suboptimally?

If they weren’t constantly checking things, would you be complaining that they forget what they have too much? They’re playing this game very casually; usually on Monday for four hours or so. The fact that there are so many monsters with so many weird names, I don’t blame them a bit.

That Chie payoff was really… underwhelming. The whole dating sim aspect of the game seems broken… as there is nothing to do when you reach the top. (At least from what we have seen so far)

Her persona evolved and lost her elemental weaknesses, plus they can fuse the most powerful Chariot. It also ties in with some stuff much later in the game.

Oh shit; I actually believed they played every day! But yet I knew that was impossible, given where they cut some of the episodes. Man, the magic is gone.

They actually make jokey references to it every now and again. “Yes, here we are, on the next day! Seriously!”

It’s why I can pretty easily forgive them for, in the first few weeks, forgetting what Bufu and Zio and Agi and Garu were. I was watching them in a row, they were doing them a week at a time.

As far as their performance, it’s usually something I can ignore. I don’t play JRPGs either. Not since FFVII bored me to tears, at any rate. Still, there are times where they overheal or use offensive magic in an extremely wasteful way that just gnaws at the penny pincher inside me.

I’m just glad that they’ve finally realized that using buffs and debuffs is okay. Now they need to stop being so scared of their physical attacks.

You obviously assume that I am somehow not liking the Persona 4 endurance run. Are you mad that I am not liking it as much as you? Is any complaint going to cause you to go into Multi-quote rampage? I clearly stated that I enjoy the endurance run, their playing just bugs me.

What hobbies do you like? Lets say you like underwater basket weaving. You watch a video of a dude making baskets underwater every week, and every week he makes the same mistakes. You know how to do it better, and you know what he is doing wrong, but there is no way for you to change anything. Wouldn’t you get a little bit irked?

But, since this is the internet, any criticism no matter how small = I hate it.

Are you hoping that Jeff Gerstmann will fly in on an elegant unicorn and grab your hand pulling you up into the saddle? Will he reward you for your staunch defense of even the smallest criticism of this fun little casual romp through the JRPG garden that is Persona 4?

“Thank you for defending me!.. Let us go play Persona together in the fields of Elysium!!” cries Jeff, the Persona-nator. “You have won my favor, and you shall be my new muse!” “Let us off then, before the bad bad bathouse grows cold!!!”

You concur with a slight nod of your head and nuzzle your head on his comforting backside. Pure Bliss.

The above post has officially gone too far, and now I’m self-conscious about posting in this thread.

In even sadder news, ExtremeTech released its last podcast today. I hope everyone here downloads and listens and supports the team’s future efforts.

Shawn was posting on twitter about getting some volunteer help to edit the podcast from multiple sources, so I suspect this problem is well on it’s way to getting fixed.
