Lame. Very lame. I really like this game but I won’t ever buy a Gearbox game again on launch day.
My Lilith is optimized for maximum phasewalking, with weapons intended to deal a massive amount of quick damage in just a few shots before the next jump.* My latest short-range weapon is a powerful Atlas shotgun with corrosive damage. For long range, I have a selection of elemental sniper rifles (Maliwan is my manufacturer of choice). But for mid-range and other flexible encounters, I like to keep revolvers around, and my walking-around weapon – for when I don’t know quite what situation I’ll find myself in next – is always a revolver.
*I can see how an SMG build would also work for rapid damage, but I find fast-firing weapons less controllable. Also, I have Shock 5 and I pick weapons based largely on elemental characteristics, so I only need a shot or two to inflict an elemental state (which would otherwise be an advantage of SMGs and even some repeaters over slower-firing weapons).
The multiplayer issues should be the front and center, top of the list priority. The game is sold by the multiplayer. If you cannot run the multiplayer, the game is vastly less for it.
I mean, I’m not going to complain about getting some fixes, even if they’re not mostly what the game needed, but it’s a pretty anemic patch.
Ha, another fun thread on the Gearbox forum.
Apparently, the AI currently reacts to sniper shots, regardless of the distance, instantaneously. This, despite the fact that GBX bothered to model bullet travel time.
The result? Mobs often dodge sneak attack bullets from a great distance off.
The GBX response: we ain’t going to fix it. It’s the way we INTENDED.

Worse, this doesn’t bode well for any PC-specific UI fixes. It’s not a bug, it’s what we intended. No fix for you!

If you’re far enough back (you need a good scope), you can shoot them without them being able to react. In fact, they’ll freeze in place. It’s like they can’t path from that far away.
Game developers provide endless post-release entertainment.

This was obviously also intended, particularly because it fixes that other totally intended gameplay mechanic of them reacting instantaneously!

Of course they intended this.
The game is clearly being inspired in The Matrix! /dodges bullet waving the arms.
Is it possible to play the whole game in melee mode? Mordecai does comparable damage to say a soldier with a AR?
All you Sirens out there, care to give my wife some pointers? She loves the sniper rifle and uses that a lot to head-shot bad guys. And an SMG in close range. But she rarely uses her phasewalk except for some AOE damage or to shift aggro to me.
Any suggestions on playing to the Sirens strengths? She is focusing a lot on the + elemental damage skills.

I have a siren up to 40-something, and playing solo she hardly ever dies despite taking on enemies many levels higher than her.
It’s mainly down to the healing while phasewalking skill. I have that, both of the phasewalk cooldown reduction skills, and the phasewalk duration skill. Any time I start taking health damage, I can just phasewalk, heal up to full, and position myself to kill one of the lesser minions quickly upon coming out of it. By the time I’ve killed that enemy and moved on to the next, my phasewalk should be ready again.
Phasewalk is a panic button. Knowing that you can get out of any tight spot, you can be a lot more aggressive with the Siren, charging into the face of trouble to unload your short-range weapons in said face. When you pop back out again, you can take a shot with a sniper rifle or rocket launcher before your next charge. Even the base phasewalk with no skills enhancing it is close to a guaranteed escape.
Little-known fact: you do not take falling damage while phasewalking. This only adds to Lilith’s maneuverability.
Playing as Mordecai I can definitely say the AI reacting instantly to sniper shots is just stupid. Having to lead the first shot with a sniper rifle just doesn’t make any sense, especially when the rest of the area goes utterly apeshit when you fire.

The reduced damage after Phasewalk ability shouldn’t be overlooked, either.
Another as INTENDED wonder:

Items are clearly presenting properties beyond even the 5 that are now displayed, as mentioned in the thread. Sniper rifles with elemental effects are another obvious place to spot this problem, as zoom level (a property of all sniper rifles) is often missing from the card.
However GBX’s latest patch notes say: “Item cards now display the intended five lines of detail text.”
“Intended” is apparently GBX’s codeword for it’s too hard for us to bother to fix. A loot game where you can’t figure out all the details of your loot, intentionally. Wonderful.

Has anyone had mission synching issues in multiplayer?
My brother has a character and I join his game with a character I created specifically to play from the beginning. I created it from the multiplayer login screen. For some reason when I join his game with this character, we get mission synch bugs. If he takes a mission, sometimes I can do stuff like turn it in for him, get the XP rewards, etc. Those show as “Active”. The missions I have from singleplayer (the early ones) show as “Invalid”, which is fine because I’m in his game. But sometimes if he takes a new quest, or I join his game in progress where he has a quest, that quest will show on my log at all . . . it shows as invalid. Is there any way around this? It sucks to go on a whole quest with him and not be rewarded for it.
Apparently if you deleted the movie files the patch helpfully re-installs them for you. It also wipes your Gamespy login settings and for me turned the music back on and (un)inverted my mouse. Fortunately it did not wipe out my key bindings or any other settings that I’ve noticed.
I think the daze ability of the Siren, combined with SMGs is awesome. With high rate of fire, you are pretty much guaranteed to have an enemy dazed before they can do much to you, and then you can just run around them shooting them to your heart’s content… their bullets even get slowed down so you can dodge any shot they get off.
The siren has emerged as my favorite character so far. I maxed out her crit ability and upped her fire rate a bit because I love getting to “out of ammo” that much faster. :P Not sure where to put skill points in from this point (mine is only level 12). I need to re-bind my special ability key because I always forget to use the phasewalk.
