Leeeeeeeetle bit late to the party on this one. I tried co-op with some pubbies but it was less than satisfying.

I’m just starting the main game (haven’t bought any DLC yet – lvl 10-15 soldier and hunter). If anybody would like to join me I’m “CharlesC 32” (yes there’s a space) on Xbox. I’m usually on ~8pm west coast time.

I played the base game and one of the four DLC to completion with a few friends of mine, but I honestly cannot imagine ever playing Borderlands with random pubbies. I’d have probably made it ten minutes in and stopped if that had been the case.

I’ve done pubs on and off… it’s about as hit and miss as you’d expect, but sometimes you need a break from the loneliness.

CharlesC: I’ve added you on Live… I’m usually on late (10-12) central time.

Nice. I’ll keep an eye out for you.

It was pretty miserable with public. Took me 4 tries just to get in a game where I wasn’t immediately kicked. Then they guys I played with did nothing but complain about the game because they’ve played it so much.

I’m lucky enough to have a group of 3 other close friends that I play most 4-player co-op games with (L4D, Magicka, Alien Swarm, ect.) and I can’t see myself having the same level of fun playing Borderlands with pubbies as with them, but that may be also due to the fact that the few times I played with pubs it usually resulted in 15 minutes of playing, someone stealing the first orange item that dropped regardless of what it was and leaving instantly, and then everyone getting mad and quitting.

Was really hoping to see a sequel announcement here, but it’s nice to see folks still playing anyway…

I’m glad there’s no sequel. I have way too much shit to do right now and a new Borderlands as good or better than the first one would ruin everything.

That’s actually pretty standard timing for me: Get around to playing a game right about when the sequel is announced.

I’m just now getting around to Claptrap DLC after having finished Knoxx due to losing all my previous savegames. I could’ve sworn they were all saved in Steam’s directory, but apparently not. Seems pretty cool so far. Much better than the “drive 100 miles to get to the mission area every time you play” thing the Knoxx DLC had going on. I had forgotten how disappointingly uneven the loot is when playing solo. I got some nice guns after beating Knoxx, but I didn’t find one good upgrade the whole time getting to him.

I also seem to be slightly too high level in the Claptrap game for the stuff I’m fighting, so even worse guns are dropping. I’m sure it’s been discussed at some point in this thread, but I thought it was supposed to be designed for people coming out of Knoxx. The enemies at the end of that were 38-40, but Claptrap started at 34-36. It’s weird how trivial it is to fight enemies only a few levels lower.

That’s depressing as my main character is level 42.

Well, didn’t they advertise a level bump to 61 with that DLC? Maybe I’m actually supposed to be much higher.

I have read elsewhere that the best way to play the game content and maintain a challenge is to do playthrough 1, do playthrough 2 and then do the DLC (knoxx, zombie and claptrap, in that order). It is also best to not do too many sidequests, as these also tend to overlevel you. Granted, this requires some obsessive behavior, but at least you are not 1 shot killing everything in the DLC.

After the second playthrough all the enemies are adjusted based on your level.

Yup, back when I was religiously playing Borderlands, I found that to be the case. In all honesty, it was the claptrap DLC that killed the game for me. It was fun to play… once. You just ATE them up… but then they dropped junk. The side quests were uninspired, and the typical humor was pretty lame to boot. After playing through Knoxx, finally getting my hands on some new DLC was exciting, but it took such little effort to get through that it was just disappointing. Heck, when I got to the bosses at the end of the DLC, for whatever reason I couldn’t see any of them. AT ALL. A friend and I were playing together, so I just blindly shot until I found numbers. The sad thing is, we had zero problems beating it. Did I mention I couldn’t see the bosses? Or the projectiles they shot? Also, the “playthrough 2” version was even more underwhelming. : (

Yeah, it was disappointing. Really too bad, because borderlands was a phenominal co-op game. I thoroughly enjoyed playing through that with my group of friends.

Claptrap was the only DLC not done by Gearbox, they farmed it out, and it shows. Pity because the idea is great.

Ahhh, it all makes sense now. : ) Yeah, definitely shows.

One of the biggest complaints I have about the game is the way level affects damage. If something is more than 2 levels higher, it hits you 10x harder and you do 10x less. It’s a very strange and abrupt way to do it. I hit the guy for 2 damage per shot and he wipes me. I level up one level and the same gun is now doing 35 damage per shot on him and I kill him easily.

Agreed. It puts a pretty substantial damper on one of my favorite things to do in games: Run way out ahead and try to fend for myself using crappy weapons of yor. (My friend and I did this for hours in FF12 to the point where we had completely lost where we were and what was going on in the plot… Took us hours to figure out what the hell was going on) You try to so much as look at a guy that’s slightly leveled above you, and you’ll be demolished. What a crock. : (

I just got this a few nights ago. I’ve got a level 11 soldier. Are the other characters different enough that it’s worth doing multiple parallel playthroughs? Or should I stick with the soldier for now?

Stick with it unless you’re not really enjoying the turret mechanic. If you try parallel runthroughs you’ll burn out fast.
