I find myself forgetting to use the turret in most fights. I really need to get in the habit of popping it more often!

question: if a weapon has a damage bonus (say +65% Damage) is that bonus figured into its base weapon stat?

Not 100% certain, but I think so.

Yes. Things like that are generally fairly visible if you’re comparing a weapon with a damage bonus vs. weapons of the same type at the same level. Ditto bonuses which affect fire rate or magazine size.

I think the soldier is the least interesting class, but, your mileage may vary.

Personally, my mileage says the Brick is the least interesting class. In terms of what their special ability does, especially. This is not “which is best,” so much as “how much their special power changes the game,” which I’d say was Siren > Soldier > Sniper > Brick, since they’re “Teleport / Summoned distraction / additional attack / hit things with your fists.”

the turret isn’t really a summoned distraction, and the bird is much more than a additional attack. I realize you were trying to simplify it, but I think you’re off mark.

The turret also heals, resupplies ammo AND shoots as well as providing cover. That’s big and game changing.

The bird can hit targets out of range, stun, heal, and more, that’s game changing.

Going Berserk heals as well as greatly increases damage and reduces damage. I do think you’re right that it’s the least game changing, but I think they all are pretty seriously game changing. I could easily argue which of the other three are ‘most game changing’ with Brick firmly in 4th.

Was there ever an explanation as to why Roland’s turret despawned when he went for second wind? I played through twice with a Hunter and it was always annoying that she could second wind off of her bird, but I was stuck just using my guns and hoping for the best. For me, that puts Roland at third. I haven’t played enough of Mordecai to say if Bloodwing or phasewalking were more gamechanging.

Once you get to a certain level, and a certain spec with Roland, he becomes an unkillable death machine. Soldiers become very fun, and very powerful mid/late game.

Yes, I was simplifying, though I still stand by my ranking in terms of how they change the game, if not necessarily in power. The teleport (which also has its side effects like healing and stunning) changes how you play a lot more than having the turret or the bird. Similarly, the bird doesn’t represent a separate, flanking threat to enemies the way the turret does. You can certainly clear out groups at a distance the way the Soldier can’t, but it still an attack that originates from your position.

In any case, the point was that the soldier is not the “least interesting class,” though in terms of enjoyment, it’s probably 3rd for me.

I’m on playthrough 2 with the hunter and he’s my least favorite, though he’s the only one that makes sniper rifles and revolvers fun to use. I just don’t dig the bird as my special ability.

Damn straight! Of all the friends I had that played Borderlands, none of them played the Soldier, and I could never understand why. The ONE time I played with one other Soldier in the group, we steam rolled everything. It was great! Easily the most fun class IMO, and the most diverse, too! : )

Really? i didn’t make it that far into the game, i think i was around level 20… but the Bird was just nasty, i would release it in a room full of baddies and it will clear them all in 1 sweep.

I don’t think it did. Because without some top-end skills, Bloodwing only attacks one target per release (you can pump it up to like six). I still prefer the Hunter anyway because I’m a cowardly little prick who would rather hide behind a rock and shoot my enemies in the eye/back/mouth/whatever than face them in honorable combat, and Bloodwing was always the first button that I would hit to get an ammunition-neutral attack, but he definitely only ever hit one guy. If he even hit one guy. Sometimes he would just fly around like a busted kite. Or get stuck on the terrain.

Doing it wrong, Brian :)

No, that pretty much matches what he’s saying. You have to spec down into that tree to make him worth much at all. I didn’t spec that way just because that seems like an awful lot of points to spend on an ability that isn’t much fun to use. I’d much rather shoot people’s heads off. But at level 42, my bloodwing does quite a bit less damage than one shot from my revolver and really isn’t of much use unless I’m near death.

Yeah, I don’t like the bird either.

Yeah i had most of my points in the bird, also got a few of those items that gave more points to bird of prey, it was so much fun watching people explode when coming in contact with bloodwing.

Yeah, I could see that. I just prefer all the shooty talents.

Not gonna lie, the pistoling Hunter was damn effective and a ton of fun… but the glitter wore off in my opinion.
