Yeah, the ending sucks. The story in general is pretty paperthin excuse to shoot things and get loot.
I quite like that the whole story is basically a bunch of people lying to you in order to get you to do things, with the excuse that they ‘thought it was something you’d enjoy’. It’s not massively clever or anything, but it seems like a neat way to handle story in a game where story is not really the point. It’s almost like they they asked themselves: what is the role that story plays in a game like this? It’s a trick to give the player some reason to do something, which they are really just doing because they will enjoy it anyway. So they just made that the story.
Thread Necro Time!
So what is the best tool for tweaking Borderlands 1 anymore (anti-aliasing, FOV adjustment, etc.)? Is this one from 2009 still the one to use?

Didn’t know anything like that existed. I have applied FOV tweaks, stopped the intro movies from playing, and set up a toggle zoom button, all stuff I found on the borderlands wiki

I just spent way too much time playing this (Steam says 65 hours) and loved it. Getting rid of the intro movies was easy, but I never got the FOV fix to work, maybe because I was running the steam version.
My favorite moment occurred while I was clearing out one of the bandit strongholds. I was under fire, and my health kept going down in big chunks (instead of the steady decline from small arms fire). Then I saw the rockets spiraling towards me, fired by a brute. After dispatching him with some headshots, I go to loot the body, and found his triple spiral rocket launcher. Having enemies drop the weapons they fire at you is such a great, great touch.
Grrrr, now I’m at Sledge’s safehouse, and can see the Claptrap repair kit, but for some weird reason can’t grab it (it’s not highlighted).
Did you talk to the Claptrap through the fence and get the quest first?
Yeah, that was the problem- I’d talked to him but hadn’t properly accepted the quest.
Mantras, I have set up FOV keys on my steam version, but when I first did it according to their instructions, one of the keys didn’t work (F11 I think). I think I dropped the decimal point off the number then it worked fine).
Just finished my first playthrough of the main game the other day. Looking forward to the DLC.
And I finished the last DLC , which I’ve owned over a year now.
Fun time, I liked the claptrap twists on just about everything. Knoxx was so awesome to fight again, and I loved the end battle, simple yet totally unexpected.
Ended with a level 45 hunter on my first play through of all content.

I’ve decided to give this a fresh runthrough if any qt3 folks are interested in some multiplayer my siren is level 22ish. Steam Id demonwolff
Just finished this last night too. If diablo weren’t around the corner, I’d probably be contemplating starting another playthrough

I could probably do it… Of course, we are in different hemispheres, timezones, and I’m a shift worker with crazy hours. Not sure how the ping would affect things.
I’ve been playing this myself recently. Don’t know why, already finished it once (without the DLC). I just felt like shooting stuff one night and it has kept me going for the last 20 odd hours of game time. Plus I suppose I’ve got the GOTY now, so might as well go through the DLC once I’m at a suitable level.
I’ve got my own Siren at level 33 if I recall and getting close to the end. My first runthrough with the soldier I hope I can recover from my old computer. He was fun. Never had to look for ammo with that guy.
Wife and I started the DLC with characters that had just finished Playthrough 1. We were about level 35, started playing Jakob’s Cove. We were level 46 when we were done.
Tried Mad Moxxi, what a horrible mistake that was. On to General Knoxx.
But here’s the problem. The General Knoxx DLC is scaled to be played right after Playthrough 1 or Playthrough 2. So the quests are level 35 or level 50. With our level 46 characters, the Playthrough 1 quests are snooze inducing, and the Playthrough 2 quests are way too hard (enemies are level 52 and take virtually no damage).
So… my wife and I are at an impasse. The only option appears to be to either complete Playthrough 1 with new characters and jump right to General Knoxx, but wife doesn’t want to replay it.
How’s the final DLC? Does it scale accordingly based on your level? Jakob’s Cove did. I don’t understand why General Knoxx doesn’t.
I thought the Mad Moxxi stuff was pretty fun, if a bit unrewarding in terms of character progress. You can always grind XP and loot farming stuff that is level appropriate to you in other areas, if you don’t mind going for questless genocide.
The last DLC is totally fun - try it out and see if it kicks your ass or not. Couldn’t you just go through a few of the fun regular campaign playthrough 2 quests to level up a bit? I always loved Krom’s canyon for some exciting action.
I just finished the main game last night. I think. I destroyed a big boss, and suddenly I had no quests. It was all pretty anti-climatic.
So what’s next? I haven’t played any of the DLC yet. Should I start a new game+ (I’m at level 36) and then play the DLC during my second playthrough? Or should I jump to the DLC in my normal playthrough, and then jump to New game+?
P.S. This game had a pretty incomprehensible storyline. Most of the time I didn’t care enough to pay attention, and was instead listening to gaming podcasts during play, but when I did care and shut down the podcasts so I could listen to what they were saying, I just ended up kind of confused. I guess that will teach me for listening to podcasts instead of the game. Oh well.

Your comment on podcasting is an interesting one. But I’ve replied to it in the podcasting thread, because I’d like to take the discussion in a more general direction.
The end of Borderlands is notoriously anticlimactic. It wouldn’t have made much more sense sans-podcast. Still a great game regardless.

I don’t think it matters much whether you start a new game or not. I went to the DLC because I didn’t really want to replay the old content, even with a new class. The DLC really is quite good.
Yeah, the storyline is bare-bones at best and nonexistent the rest of the time. The last area just sort of happens. I wouldn’t worry too much about understanding it. Shooting things is fun though!

The interesting thing about Borderlands DLC is that you can see the designers used the DLC to try more focus in on the humor, and explore different ideas of what Borderlands could be about. I’m sure that Borderlands 2 design was influenced by the things they learned with Borderlands 1 DLC. Its an example of how DLC can be a force for good, and not just for evil.
Not much to add here except that I love the expression “questless genocide”.
