General Speedrunning Thread - Gotta Go Fast

Couldn’t find time to watch a speedrun? Gimme a break ;-)

Heads up. AGDQ just kicked off. A whole week of Speedrun fun.

Not for everyone but I love the buzz around the event.

Power Up With Pride, Pride themed speedrun marathon, is running this weekend raising money for the Trevor Project.

AGDQ is this week! One thing I appreciate about the event is that they don’t solely stick to the classics - they mix it up from event to event. This time around, there are quite a few recent games that might interest some:

  • Psychonauts 2
  • Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
  • Returnal
  • It Takes Two

If GDQ is Game Done Quick, what does the A in AGDQ stand for?

I thought I’d find out from clicking the link, but that only has the acronym.

‘Awesome’.

Yep, they do Awesome Games Done Quick in January each year, and Summer Games Done Quick in the summer (I don’t recall exactly when).

I see, they get the Awesome games out of the way in the winter time.

Also, here’s the broadcast for anyone interested:

Their YouTube channel also has them split up by game so you can search more easily later on (lags by about a day): https://www.youtube.com/c/gamesdonequick

So AGDQ has come and gone, with a lot of really interesting runs. This one in particular is worth checking out if you missed it - a dude plays through Sekiro in two hours. While blindfonded.

Yeah, these are bananas. I recall seeing some guy a while back doing N++ blindfolded which was like… waaaaaaat.

I’m still catching up on VODs, but my favorite run so far from AGDQ 2022 isn’t even a speedrun. It’s the StepMania mod exhibition:

I love the TomatoAnus (great name) speedrun walkthroughs on YouTube. He explains the tricks and exploits used to get their times.

Summoning Salt is also excellent, if a bit sophoric. He focuses on the history of speedrunning each game.

It’s that time again!

Schedule here: Games Done Quick

Scanning the list, here’s what looks most interesting to me personally, either because the game is newer or because I haven’t seen the game run before:

  • Mass Effect 1
  • Link’s Awakening (2019) - Race
  • GTA: Vice City
  • Halo Infinite
  • Final Fantasy VI with some kind of randomizer
  • Minecraft
  • Borderlands 2
  • Satisfactory
  • Final Fantasy X
  • Elden Ring, all remembrances

Great to see it back in person.

Thought this was incredible, fascinating and beautiful:

SGDQ is about a month early this year. Started yesterday:

Interesting, and after doing some digging it seems like Quake is the original speedrun game. As in at one point speedrunning a game meant speedrunning Quake.

Dog assisted speed run!
