Gift Cards

This is a good idea.
Other kinds of gift cards are a total cop out and should signal the end of silly giftgiving between the giver and reciever of the card.

I like to give gifts, that cannot even be exchanged. “I put a lot of thought into this, if you exchange it for something else - I’ll kill ya!”. Only reason to exchange a gift is if it’s a piece of clothing, that doesn’t fit.

I’m a big fan of gift cards. I usually get around 3-5 each holiday season, and so long as they’re to a store I like, I don’t have a problem with it. It’s even nicer when they are all to the same store. One year I ended up with about $150 worth of Barnes and Noble gift cards, so I was able to buy a ton of technical books I’d have never gotten, and were too expensive to gift list.

My wife and my immediate family get detailed Christmas lists, but my in-laws and friends I’d prefer gift cards to stores I like.
