How time consuming is Unity of Command? Can you play it for short periods of time? If so, and if a copy is still available, all the praise definitely got me interested… However, if it is indeed very time consuming, by all means save it for someone that actually has enough time to play it properly!

It isn’t. Each scenario is typically an hour or less, often quite a bit less. You can save mid mission too. The biggest thing with time is if you want to get Brilliant Victories, which may entail replaying a scenario several times. There is some campaign brnaching which might encourage replays to get better scores.

I’ve got 65 hours in the game, but that was me playing all campaigns, and getting Brilliant Victories on each. I’ve probably played each mission 3 times on average.

Oh bugger, I should have posted this in the ‘talk me out of this game’- thread… Damn you… ;-)

Joking aside, the game looks great, and it’s probably totally up my alley. So if it’s still available, I would love to try it!

I will never talk someone out of Unity of Command. It’s bad to lie, you know ;)

Check your PM

Hi folks,

lurking around here is a real pleasure and since I’ve benefited so much from this fine community over the past years I thought I might offer my few but soon forgotten unused keys here. Nothing fancy though.

-Fallen Enchantres: Legendary Heroes (steam)
-Call of Juarez: Gunslinger (steam)
-I Am Bread (steam)

As a precondition I’d say you should be a somewhat active member of the community (not like me ;)). Best to pm me.

Thanks a lot Storz!

I’d like these, if they’re still available…

Check your PM’s.

Thanks!

Just got a 30% off coupon for Gremlins, Inc in my Steam inventory. If anyone didn’t get this and is interested, please post here or PM me.

I have keys to the following pinball FX tables. Standard rules apply:

Iron & Steel Pack
The Walking Dead Table

All keys are taken.

I just like to share that Unity of Command, which I got from Storz, is indeed a very nice game, albeit f@#*&ing hard for a newbie like me. Enjoying it a lot, thanks again Storz (and Craigm for not talking me out of it…)!

That’s only 42 words…

Glad you enjoyed it. Anyway, thanks to humble bundle adding more games to the already awesome Jumbo 6 bundle , I have Shadowrun Returns to give away. PM if interested.

Glad to hear. I’m going to give you one tip that will help a lot with going from ‘how can I possibly break their defense’ to ‘move these units first, attack with these ones’.

Many infantry units have special abilities. Look in the bottom right corner of the unit portraits. See how some have different icons? Clicking on a unit will expand them, and show any special unit pips they may contain. There are a bunch of different flavors, attached tanks of varying quality, engineer units, mountain, artillery, NKVD, etc. Starting to learn these will be a huge step. NKVD, for example, makes it much less likely (as in almost impossible) to cause an overrun or retreat on a unit. Those guys are a pain to break.

There is one unit I want you to pay special attention to. See the units with the purple square with a dot in them? Notice how when you move them the purple square becomes grey for a turn? Those are your attached artillery units. Those are very important. They are your key to breaking through enemy lines. See the game uses a standard wargame table, where you tally strength and that determines the results table you use for the hidden dice roll. Artillery gives a nice +3 bonus to attacks. That causes a huge swing in your favor. It makes it much more likely for you to break a dug in unit, cause an overrun, and do more damage (either suppress or destroy pips). Two units of equal strength, with no other modifiers, but one has attached artillery? Well that unit is almost certain to win.

The catch is they can not attack the same turn they move.

Sure your infantry can attack, but not the special artillery portion. So when planning your attacks always try and set it up to maximize those units. Try and attack with them first to soften up the unit for the next unit. Always try and make sure that they will be adjacent to an enemy unit at the end of your turn, that way they can attack before moving. Learn how to position with them and it will make a big difference for you.

Good luck!

Thanks, that will certainly help! I did notice the icons, also because you can add those abilities with prestige, but I definitely wasn’t using them in any meaningfull way. I will try doing that next time to see if it makes a difference, especially at the hard to beat scenario’s.

Yes, most certainly do. If you need to attack across a river, against dug in, or units in a city, always try to use an engineer or artillery first. If you have air strikes, always do those first. Use infantry to go through any hole first, and then move in your tanks to cut off enemy units (tanks move farther, so use infantry to open the Zone of Control, aka, moving through contested space).

There are lots of small things you can do, as you note the game can be quite hard. But you have the tools, it is just a matter of learning what tools are best for which jobs.

So I was perusing my Steam inventory this morning (spring cleaning…) and found out I had a copy of Tomb Raider(2103) sitting there. If anyone at QT3 still hasn’t played this awesome game and wants to please send me a PM today and I will pick a random person to pass this off to. Please include either your steamID or email address to send the gift to.

Yeah, you got a copy of this when you bought Rise of the Tomb Raider on Steam.
