Giving new meaning to 'Term Limits'

Chavez Wants Vote on Governing Until '31

Mmm. Dictator for life. Good gig if you can get it. Well, Romania doesn’t count.

As hilariously silly as the story is, Chavez isn’t a dictator. He’s won fair elections, repeatedly, and asking the public to repeal the ban on multiple terms (which I guess is what he was talking about; it’s hard to tell through his loony dialogue, as always) isn’t very dictatorial either. He’s kind of like Berlusconi - sleazy but legal.

The only reason Berlusconi is legal is because he pretty much made himself immune while in office… He’s a crook, that’s hardly august company.

I give it two years before Chavez starts cracking heads of the populist mob that got him elected in the first place.

That’s the usual pattern, but Chavez is very concerned with his wildly popular image abroad and that concern may well preclude such things.

Yeah, dictators usually call for votes on staying in office. Totally apt description there, chuckles.

Based on what?

Based on hating Chavez for teh socialism.

BUT BUT BUT SAMUEL HUNTNINGDON SED THAT S. AMERRICA WOULD BE ON RSIDE IN THE CLASH OF CVILISISATIONS! CHAVEZ IS TEH SUCK

Yeah, but the “clash” he was talking about was the Andromedan Invasion. Humanity will forge some surprising alliances against Space Tyrant Zaxx and his Black Star Brigades. But after his defeat at the hands of a plucky group of rag-tag something-or-others, South America will go back to not liking the CIA very much. Go figure.
