Actually, I thought the omission was Rene Descartes. He is probably the most influential French person of all time, even if many people don’t know how. The Cartesian coordinate system alone will haunt 9th graders for years to come!

And I think it is fair to say Napoleon was French. Corsica was more French culturally (at the time). Besides, there are tons of examples of people born in other countries that really live most of their lives in a different country than their birth. They are considered to be where they lived the most, at least in many cases. Napoleon is as French as Marie Antoinette…oops, bad example!
