Warcraft III is $19.90 for the recent 48 hour madness, MADNESS, MADNESS sale. The brick and mortar stores recently cut it to $34.99 (at least EB did). I know a lot of people have used them and other software sales sites. Qt3 and GoneGold have links to GoGamer which, in my mind, lends more credibility to the sites.
Are these rock bottom sales using titles as loss leaders in the hopes that you will buy everything there? Like BestBuy does with CDs. The price disparity just seems crazy and I have read a few horror stories regarding some other sites. GoGamer seems pretty clean.
They’ve been selling Warcraft III for $19 for over half a year now. ;) The Madness sale is for Frozen Throne.
But yeah, they are good. I’ve used them a few times and everything went off without a hitch. Most recently I pre-ordered Frozen Throne from there with 2day shipping and it arrived the day after release.
I don’t know how they do it, exactly, but I’ve bought plenty of madness and non-madness games from GoGamer and have never had the slightest problem.
When Europa Universalis was new, they offered super-low prices on it by selling the Benelux version, which seemed identical to the English version in every way. I think they just hunt for good wholesale deals.
Blizzard may have temporarily cut the price of Warcraft III in hopes of generating more sales of the expansion.
It’s also possible that $20 is now the wholesale price of Warcraft III and these sites are using them as a loss leader as you suggested – what does the game retail for now? $30? Even if you only buy Warcraft III with your first-time order, you’re more likely to be a repeat customer if you have a successful experience with GoGamer. It’s not easy to get people to buy online. They need to give you incentives to do so. Once you feel good about them, you might use them more.
They also get your contact information and can market to you. That’s got some value.
I buy alot of stuff from GoGamer. Since Brick and mortar stores seem to have less and less of selections for PC games that are 6mo. or older. I’ts cool to spend 50 bucks and get 4 or 5 older games for that.
Recently I picked up: Dungeon Keeper I and II (replacements)
Homeworld- which I could not find a copy of anywhere.(Replacement again)
ST:EF
Jagged Allience II
Wizardry 8
55 bucks. 6 games.
Since I’ve jumped off the Gotta have it first bandwagon, I’ll wait the week or two nad spend sometimes half as much on a new title through these guys.
Don’t forget to support QT3 and go to gogamer thru the link on the front page or any gogamer banner. I think there has only been one person who has done that this month.
The main problem Chet is that the link is on the front page. “My favorites” links directly to the forums. For those that do go through the front page, the link does not stand out. At all. It looks like another in the list of features in the right-hand margin that rarely update.

We might redesign the front page a bit and make some changes.
GoGamer rocks. I’ve ordered from them a whole bunch of times, and their prices are generally low, their service is always speedy, and their shipping is very reasonable. As a matter of fact, I just got Gothic II from them the other day! And speaking of which, sorry Mark, I too missed the Qt3 GoGamer link. Doh! Could you do something permanent with it on the main page of the forums?
The winds of change are blowing. The wicked nannies are flying away, and one lone magical web programming nanny is arriving.
Yeah, we should make the GoGamer stuff more visible. If we pull off this front page thing, stuff like that will probably happen. Mary Poppins said it would take her a couple of weeks to get to it though, so we’ll just have to be patient. Have you learned patience staring at our front page, waiting for an update? We hope so!
I’ve placed literally a couple dozen orders with gogamer and never had a problem.
That said, I may just pick up frozen throne at Sams since there aren’t any other specials this week that I want, when I get 3 games at once the $6 shipping isn’t a big deal, but since I’m in CA and get hit for sales tax, for just one game it doesn’t save me anything.
