Gong xi fa cai!

Happy Lunar New Year everyone! (Also known as “Chinese new year”.)

Interesting point of observation: I have lived 6 years in Beijing; 4 years in Hong Kong; and now 4 years in Singapore. But my favorite Chinese new years by far were those celebrated in New York City.

Gong xi fa cai!

Kind of surprising to me: Celine Dion just gave a live New Year’s performance (of her song from Titanic) on China’s CCTV 4. Never seen a mainstream Western celebrity perform on the (mainland) Chinese New Year’s show before.

And now, again on CCTV 4, we just got a Chinese canto-pop version of the Blackeyed Pea’s “Boom Boom Pow.” This is getting surreal.*

  • A little while back, I was regretting being a little too drunk to play Far Cry. But watching CCTV 4’s New Year’s Eve bash while drunk is fast becoming really fun.

Will you guys keep her? Please!?!

The way she’s looking at 45, you’re probably not going to have to twist my arm much.

She looked great while she still sang in French!

新年快樂!

I hope the restaurants re-open soon. I’m hungry. :(

I work with a number of folks in Singapore but until recently really didn’t understand exactly how important Chinese New Year was. Gong xi fa cai!

Two words: total shutdown.

Cheese it, Vet. You forgot to switch accounts.

Gong Xi, Gong Xi.

Happy Celine Dion to everyone!

Yay! Red envelope for the kid. I’d better make one of those.

And like the entire western hemisphere gets the week off.

There’s something to this communist shit, man.
