BTW, did anyone do a Let’s Play of the FMV cheesefest Night Trap? Or Rianna Rouge? Would be fun for some laughs.
LP?
The second one is worse in my opinion.

Heh I still have my Phantasmagoria discs. A truly awful game but back then I was enamored with the whole multimedia CDROM interactive experience and what better game to show off my new Gateway 2000 Pentium 75 than Wing Commander 3 and Phantasmagoria. I was stoked about it from reading the CGW making-of preview and, hey, what could possibly go wrong with the creator of King’s Quest at the helm?
Back in those days, I was all about the Silent Steel. And I actually longed to play Fox Hunt.
Why won’t those come to GOG? Someone has to keep the FMV dream alive!

But why? The first one has no pacing at all, a paper-thin plot, god-awful “acting”, and only a couple of even slightly memorable scenes (Zoltan murdering his wives, the terrible “edgy” rape scene, the eventual fates of the minor characters). Also, the tech sucks. The second one goes off the deep end late in the game, but it’s got plot, building action, some genuinely freaky scenes, a couple of halfway decent actors, and a protagonist who may very well be going insane. Plus of course the FMV is much better implemented.
It’s been a while but, from what I remember, the second one is much like the first one without the new tech to make it at least initially interesting.

Me, I’d prefer Double Switch. Absolute cheese, but god help me, I loved it. R Lee Ermy can make anything fun.

This FMV games, are they like Heavy Rain?
Fuzzyslug: LP = ‘Let’s Play’. It’s essentially watching someone play through a game, often with narration.
For us old fogies, an LP is something you put on your turntable.
FMV stands for “full motion video.” Here’s the Wikipedia article if you want to know how and why: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_motion_video.
I haven’t played Heavy Rain, but I doubt it is at all similar.
Damn I feel old after reading some of these responses, but at least the games are good. ;)

And LP stands for “long play.” Yes, we (well, some of us) are getting old.

The Red Baron Pack and Incredible Machine Mega Pack are 50% off until March 15th – $4.99 each.
Yup, finally snagged the RB pack this morning. Can’t wait to see how well they’ve gotten RB3D to run on Windows 7.
