But why would you do that? We pack 60 minutes of brilliance in a 90 minute podcast!
How many minutes do you pack it into?
Another not so old and questionably “good” game added: Two Worlds.
Wow, neither good nor old.
It’s unavoidable that their catalogue gets some stinkers as it grows larger. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” and all that.
Who knows, they might be contractually bound to carry some of these not-so-good-or-old games in order to sell the better ones.
Came out in 2007, and was fucking awful.
I used to just trust GOG by default on a game, but…yeah, lately it’s getting pretty iffy, isn’t it? I hope this g.com phase is only that, because I really liked being able to just say “That sounds interesting” and safely buy it.
What was so horrible about it? The impressions I read were pretty good and I know two people that liked the game a lot. Perhaps it was much improved with patches?
This is a good video showing Two Worlds.
I quite enjoyed Two Worlds for a few hours, but it was horrendous on X-box by all accounts. Which is partly why it has such a bad reputation.
Two Worlds had a big issue at release which was meant as a cool feature but made yourself way to overpowered:
You could combine weapons that dropped together making a better weapon in the process. This was totally unbalanced so by picking up 30 lame swords that dropped like candy you get the “omg wtf weapon” that raped everything alive in that game.
They fixed this later with a patch but I had already completed the game and no intention to go back.
It’s also a bad / good game for people that want to pick up everything: You can use your horse(s) as mobile treasure chests and stow tons of shit on them. Just get one, “park” it somewhere you remember and stuff it full.
It will stay there forever even if you get a new horse to actually ride to somewhere.
Finally your sister looks like a total slut and you were like “Wtf this is my little sister?” (just like in real life!?! ;) ).
It was kinda fun for just running around and exploring, beating stuff up, and taking their loot, but it doesn’t really motivate you to do much beyond that. The plot, dialogue, and voice acting are all wretched, the dungeons are way more boring than the overworld, and the main story is nothing more than ‘get this list of items and then beat up the final boss’.
The game is, ultimately, mashing the left mouse button for a while at some non-descript enemies without any kind of strategy. You die over and over, respawn nearby, repeat.
There were a few people who absolutely loved it, certainly. Some who considered it a poor man’s Oblivion. And some who thought it was the worst thing since Extreme Paintbrawl, with the same level of AI to boot.
Yeah, I’m in the latter camp, obviously. The presentation is unbelievably awful (sound, graphics, dialog, etc.), there’s a few things which, maybe if worked on, could have become functional gameplay, but it just missed the mark so often.
The PC version could get up to “serviceable” at least if you just want to click through enemy hordes. The Xbox version, though, is one of the absolute worst things released on the console.
I have a feeling GoG has to put up games like Two Worlds, Empire Earth III and so on as part of larger distribution deals, like “You wanna sell MoO 1 and 2, fine, you gotta sell 3 too” type of thing.
They can put up whatever the fuck they like, as long as they have the goods, too. Which they do.
Two Worlds probably holds the record for the shortest amount of time a game has spent from 360 back into GameFly envelope. Like, literally eight minutes - just enough time to swing a sword at the first enemy, and then out.
PC version was ok once patched. Not great, but I completed it. 360 version has no supporters anywhere. Two Worlds II is actually due out soon.
Eh… Why wouldn’t GOG try to get their hands on as many games as possible? Moar games = moar sales = moar profats, no?

Because eventually, if the catalogue is just full of over priced crap, people will stop bothering to go there to shop.
I am not saying they are anywhere near that stage, but you certainly want to keep the level of crap to a minimum.
This doesn’t apply anywhere, nor in virtual stores, nor in real ones. People doesn’t care about the extra crap, if apart from that there are good things in the store.
