Sure it can’t provide those physical items, but I’d hope that the price of the game itself being so low would help lower the price of these artificially inflated expensive items as well.

Why do you hope these prices go down and why do you think they are too high?

As long as you are not a collector they shouldn’t bother you much before.
Even less now that GoG sells it for a fraction. :)

Oh, I am a collector, and in some cases I would prefer the manual (for flight sims and space games mostly) and other stuff, but most times I just want the game itself.

Rare and scarce things are expensive.
/Whoa

Well, I’m a collector of games, but I couldn’t care less about the manuals and tchotchkies, so GoG is a great thing for me. I’m also really horrible about backing up my stuff. So services like Steam and GoG are a godsend for me in that way too.

I just want to be able to play these games legitimately without paying exorbitant prices for older games that I will continually get distracted from by new shinies. I don’t get upset about sky high prices for things like actual Collector’s Editions that are designed to be limited and collectible, but having to pay the moon just to play a game I might be interested in is a bit much. Unfortunately GoG is doing less than I’d hoped to alleviate that. Sure, it’s got some awesome old games, but I already owned most of the few games they’ve gotten that were actually tough to come by (since I bought them when they were not). My kingdom for them to snag titles like Star Saga and System Shock 2.

I’m the opposite. I find the “Collectors Price” of an old, rare, and much loved game to be much more legitimate than the same price being asked for a “Collectors Edition” new game that includes some mass produced junk toy and a bonus DVD you’ll throw in your drive once and never actually finish watching.

Then again, I’m not the target market because I won’t pay for either. I just want the game from the cheapest Kmart or Digital store I can find.

Tony

I guess my feeling is that high prices and rarity for old, much loved games prevent them from becoming much loved games for younger generations. I don’t give a shit if things that are valuable primarily to collectors command high prices - that high price just adds to the worth of the item for a collection.

Icewind Dale 2 is up. So probably Baldur’s Gate 2 next week? (they better be)

Only makes sense. If it isn’t BG2 there might be riots.

I want Neverwinter Nights 2 with all expansions out soon as well!

Yeah, I suspected from the start that they’d be saving Baldur’s Gate 2 for last. :D

They’ll release Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete next week, and then the week after that (if they survive the pitchfork mobs) they’ll apologize for the confusion and release a surprise eighth game: Baldur’s Gate 2.

I hope you’re so very wrong about that, Otagan.

I’m tempted by Icewind Dale 2, (since I loved playing through the original IWD) even though I’ll never have enough time to play it. Luckily WarrenM’s game allowance strategy makes it easy to resist. I’m not blowing my entirely weekly game allowance on one game that I don’t have time to play! That’s preposterous.

Saving the best for last!

I’ve been playing my original copy of IWD 2 during my lunch hour a lot lately. It’s fun, but damn I forgot how hard the battles can be. I highly recommend anyone who buys it to play through again go read the IWD 2 party creation thread for some excellent advice on how to survive and not gimp your party later on.

I guess IWD2 is pretty damn popular.

That is a very cute image. And it beats the heck out of another “We’re pulling the plug!” hoax.

Tooooooootally.
