Oh wow, the Broken Sword games are truly great. I already own all three (including BS Director’s Cut on the iPod Touch, which is a fantastic port)…but any fan of old-school adventure game should grab them.

Yep, I grabbed BS1, having already bought and played BS2&3 from GoG in an earlier deal. For that price, I can’t go wrong and I thoroughly enjoyed the sequels.

It started great and was distinctly mediocre by the third (have yet to play the fourth). It’s relatively disconcerting how the voice of one of the major characters changes… every game? Or was it just the third?

The first one is great, but I don’t think it needed the extra story line they tacked on the front, the opening had previously been one of its strong points.

GOG have started their holiday sale, from 30% up to 50% off till January 3rd.

Now I’m glad I waited to buy all the Black Isle games. I already own them all physically, but juggling all those discs discourages me from ever playing them again.

GOG just added Tyrian 2000, another free game, to the catalogue. It’s already freeware, though it’s nice to have it on GOG’s shelf.

Tyrian 2000 is so awesome.

Can someone elaborate on this? I know it’s free, but time is way more precious than money, and I’d just wanted someone to sell me on it as a worthy experience.

Of course is a worthy experience. Who have not played mothefucking Tyrian? Apart from you, i mean.

Tyrian 2000 is too much game for you, Sally.

It’s a schmup. With dozens of levels (a “playthrough” won’t touch all of them, by far), and a billions secret levels, and a really good ship uprade system. And a ship that shoots bananas. And other stuff.

I have no idea. I’ve never even heard of it. Was it really famous game in the arcades or something? Looks like a 2D shooter. I played a lot of shooters in the arcades back in the 80s, but I don’t remember any of their names. I lost interest in shooters during the 90s when Arcades faded away. I never really enjoyed shooters on PC or consoles, not really. There was just something about playing them in the arcade that made them really fun.

I played through it recently for the first time. It’s worth trying out. Oddly, I still prefer Raptor, even though that game had a lot less going on. Or I’d rather just play Jets N’ Guns again.

So is everything 30-50% off? I’m at work so I don’t want to check. Their emails always show up 2 days late for me.

Wow, fantastic time to lose my job. ;) I might just get a buncha stuff anyway.

Are you god damn kidding? Go get the damned free game and play it, it’s fantastic. One of the best PC-based shmups ever.

No, only 250(!) games, which looks to be about 80% of their catalog. I saw that Fallout and Arcanum (among others) aren’t discounted.

I just need Icewind Dale to be 30% off now or at some future point soon. The widescreen mod requires Heart of Winter, which I don’t have. It’s about $7 through Half.com so it would even out.

Icewind Dale (and other D&D games) is 30% off now.

In case you hadn’t checked, GOG has just put up its holiday sale which includes Icewind Dale at 30% off ;)

edit - Damn, beaten by catshade!

Tyrian 2000 has such a great soundtrack.

And no wonder, with Alex Bradon (Deux Ex, Unreal…) behind it! I had no idea. GOG rocks so much.

So … Baldur’s Gate. I remember now why I stopped playing it the first time I got it and assumed it was a crap game - because you get to a point, very very early on, where no matter what you say to a guy you get instakilled because he claims he recognizes you anyway (in the famed BioWare “choice that is not a choice” type of conversation).

Am I doing it wrong because I shouldn’t be heading to Friendly Arm until I dicked around in the overworld and gotten a few levels (despite being clearly told to head there to get more help)? Or is there a magic “do not instakill me” item in my inventory that I’m overlooking?
