I am very excited for Zork!

I got Spellcross from HotU some years ago after Luticus mentioned it, but I couldn’t get it to run past one turn IIRC.

It’s not even on HoTU anymore, but then again not sure anything is.

What the heck… Someone made a third Soldier of Fortune game? It must have been awful, I never heard anything about it!

Yes, that seems to be the consensus.

I can’t start new threads so I post this here: Arkane Studios released a patch and the source code for Arx Fatalis(!).

The patch apparently fixes compatibilityproblems with Vista/Win7 among other small things.

Though the playtime was short and the world of the game was relatively small, it had great atmosphere, detailed interactivity (you could even cook) and an interesting gesture system for casting magic spells.

I have fond memories of this game.

Two new releases today:

Police Quest 1+2+3+4
Zork Anthology (includes Zork I, Zork II, Zork III, Beyond Zork, Zork Zero, and Planetfall)

I have fond memories of the PQ series. Back when I was a teen, I actually wanted to become a police officer because of the games.

Yeah, Steam updated their version as well. The patch is fully compatible with GOG’s release, just point the installer to your game path.

Man, I used to have a CD that contained pretty much every Infocom game ever made, but of course I loaned it to a friend and never got it back. Going to have to pick up that Zork back (woohoo Planetfall!) and make the slow climb back to Infocom completeness.

That is a really shitty friend. We should all go and beat them up and get your CD back.

On another note, now since they have the PQ games, I would KILL if they got the SWAT games too.

wow !~~~~~~~~

So did anyone pick up Zork? Is it just good old command-window Zork, or have they included a 3rd party interactive fiction engine to run it?

One of the user reviews on GoG states:

“This package contains the MS-DOS versions of the included games. They are run through DOSBOX. They will work in DOSBOX on other platforms than Windows, and they will work without DOSBOX in other interpreters that can execute Infocom Z-Code, such as Frotz. Please note that Zork Zero does not include MGA graphics, and some interpreters have to be configured to use the CGA or EGA files.”

Yeah, the Zork download includes DOSBox. I didn’t try any other engines.

For anyone who purchased MotoRacer 2 in the past, GOG is now offering game credit due to some hidden copy protection that is interfering with gameplay. To me, this shows just how classy the service is, especially when I think about games that remain broken and for sale on other services.

Also, for those who were interested in Last Express, sounds like GOG will be getting it very shortly.

A few new releases:

Dark Reign + Expansions
The Last Express

Now they need to get Dark Reign 2, and quick-like.

I’d like to play one of GoG’s adventure games. I think the last game I’ve played in the genre was The Curse of Monkey Island. I loved Zork when I was a kid on my Appple II and was thinking about picking that up but I see Last Express was added today and the story and art look and sound pretty neat. I think I also have a copy of Full Throttle at home a friend left with me a couple years ago.

So I ask the QT3 adventure game fans, which one should I install tonight given the fact I haven’t played one of these things in almost 15 years?
