Play Incubation on the easier difficulty level and it ends up playing out much, much less like a puzzle game. Still very tactical, challenging enough, and enjoyable though. Highly recommended.
I will say, though, the Wilderness missions expansion gets pretty challenging even on the easier difficulty. You’ll definitely want a firm understanding of the game mechanics before taking it on, especially on the upper difficulty levels.
Wonder if there’s any chance Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate will make an appearance on GoG?
Looks like GoG didn’t deal with a copy-protection issue (that requires an .EXE hex-edit to fix) that renders BI2 useless.
Just saw this over at the gog forums:
Dear GOG’ers,
I hereby apologize for all of the trouble Battle Isle 2 and Incubation have caused to you.
The new updated build with all of the hotfixes has been uploaded.
Cheers !
Yep. I made it to the final mission, took one look at it, and just laughed.
I’m playing it now on a Win98 VMware image. The biggest problem is the impossibly fast window scroll. CPU killers don’t seem to help. You have to inch around with the arrow keys.
Are the games at GoG patched up? I see a lot of games there that bring back memories but I also remember some needing patches, Fallout & Fallout 2 in particular.

I am pretty sure everyone of them comes with the latest updates.
Cool.
What a great site. So many memories.
It should be noted that every once in a long while one of them is missing a hotfix, but GoG adds it in very quickly once it comes to their attention.
That’s the only problem though:
There is no list of files that have been updated since originally been put up on GoG which is pretty stupid as in theory I should re-download all my games like once every 6 months to have the most recent versions.
Would be better for them and myself to only download the stuff that changed / was added but so far they have ignored my suggestion… :P
Otherwise the service is fantastic and I own close to 200 games there now.

I first read this as “GoG has a library of close to 200 games”. Currently, my mind is boggling.
It’s a shame they haven’t adopted that approach (yet), because it’s a great idea.
They at the very least should have some “news” section that would also report on updates to games, even if they are very rare, since the game are so old.
New release: Might and Magic 8 - $5.99
I can’t remember if my last M&M game was 7 or 8. I know I definitely didn’t play 9.
I see 8 is when the reviewers started turning on them.
M&M 7 was really good, aside from the shopkeepers who wanted you cast into the fires of perdition for windowshopping. I never played 8.
I have Masters of the Elements and Clash of the Dragons. In fact my CotD disk remains in my laptop case at all times, as it’s a great game to play while traveling - easy to get into for short sessions.
M&M 8 is fuuuuuuunky.
You roll one character and have to recruit the rest out in the world. There are now monster classes - Troll, Minotaur, Dark Elf, Vampire, and Dragon. They’re all similar to the familiar M&M VI/VII classes but with a few twists including racial skills that grant special abilities of various sorts (e.g. troll regeneration). The dragons were hideously unbalanced; they get fly and an unlimited super powerful ranged attack and a shitload of hp/ac. The other racial classes were at least interesting.
There’s this whole thing about the titular Day of the Destroyer. You’re playing “evil” except you aren’t really evil exactly. It was all kind of funky. At $5.99 I’d recommend it to people who liked the previous installments but never played it. But IMO it was inferior to VI/VII. I will be playing it in the next few weeks, of course.
Sold! I liked 6 and 7 a lot and even if it’s not as good, at least it sounds like 8 was trying to be a bit different and not just more of the same, which would have been a bit tiring by that point. I’m not sure why I never played it back when it first came out. (Edit: Oh, after checking release dates, EverQuest was what happened…)
I want to say it was also fairly unstable on release, and that scared quite a few people off.

It shall be mine, as well. I greatly enjoyed VI and VII and really want a new game. Shim is having fun with Shogun 2 while I remind myself how little I enjoyed the DA II demo. This sounds like just the thing to take away the bad taste. :)
