It’s not a particularly interesting topic of conversation. Magazine scans get posted - legality/morality aside - all over the tubes. GoG might not care. They might care but be unaware that it is taking place. They might care, but it might not be a top priority. Addressing the issue here is probably going to come off as trollish since this place has a thing about those sorts of threads. . .
To the extent that there may be any sincerity in your advice
I am many things, but I am generally a pretty sincere guy in addition to all of those things (Lover. Builder. Poet. Ace fighter pilot. I am a renaissance man in a vast and terrible place).
, I suppose I should ignore the condescension and thank you for the concern.
Hey, I was barely even trying to condescend; count yourself blessed. It’s just that it should be painfully obvious that the best way to get the issue resolved is not to post about it on an entirely separate web site.
If you want to discuss the legal/moral implications. . . I guess go start a new thread. As I mentioned above, there is kind of a funny history here regarding that particular brand of thread. Some people will consider it trolling; I did not assume you were trolling for whatever little that is worth. Though the initial address of the subject arguably made more sense if you were. That’s all part of the fabulousness of the internet, though.
I don’t think the internet is a “vast and terrible place,” however. It’s just people communicating with other people, and in so doing, choosing how they treat others. In spite of what people are generally like, I try to remain hopeful that each person I encounter is kind and respectful toward others, at least until they prove themselves otherwise. So I don’t think I will be abandoning use of the internet.
Terrific. In the mean time, I would consider never appearing to play the victim. It will improve internet usability about a thousand fold.
So. I want to get a strategy/tactics game from GOG.
Should I get Original War (which I was always curious about and sounds unusual), Fallout Tactics, or the Battle Isle Pack (I’ve already played the two Incubation games, but might try the others)?
Erm…Jagged Alliance, likely the best tactical games evar?

Original War is quirky and I think Eastern European, but I played through the entire lengthy campaign back in the day. It’s definitely something unique. Interface was a little crappy even at the time, but it’s worth checking out. There’s something to be said for strapping a mind control helmet and a bomb to a Neanderthal and gently nudging him in the direction of the enemy base. And you do this all in an RPG kind of way, capturing the Neanderthal, building the helmet, and having a tech with the skill to operate the poor guy, it’s not just building a unit. And the time travel story, while full of awkward writing and voice acting, is even more awesomely wacky than Red Alert pretends to be.
What are you looking for?
I’d go with FO:Tactics, but it depends on your tastes. If you’re looking for a RTS, Original War is the one to go with. Or maybe Perimeter if you haven’t played that.

Original War is absolutely dire and shouldn’t be touched with a barge pole. One of those games that pretends to be offering you options, then puts them in map design that gives you the middle finger.
Exhausted it years ago. Stick to the list or I’ll have to send you an advice coach to help you advise me.
Did you say that in your post, Johnny? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. :P
Out of THE LIST YOU FUCKING MENTIONED, I’d say Fallout Tactics.
That’s it, I’ve had it with you. Where do ya wanna meet me and fight it out?
Right here, right now, boyo!
Well, soak yourself in Jergen’s lotion, 'cause here comes the one-man kung fu explosion!
Fiendish John Many Jars, you done fucked up now!
Anyway, XIII has been released on GoG and its unique-at-the-time art style holds up decently eight years later. I recall the game itself being regarded as middling when it was released. Anyone play it and have thoughts on it?

I found it to be like Enslaved, where the game portions are horrible, but the everything else portions were pretty fun. I recall the difficulty followed a steep curve up in the middle of the game

I remember playing XIII on the xbox when it was originally released. I rented it and beat it in one weekend. I remember thinking it felt a little short.
Other than that, I can’t remember much about it. It was obviously good enough for me to finish it, but not memorable enough for me to remember anything else.
XIII is a stylish, hella-underrated shooter that I’m sure we’ve discussed on the board before at length.
It is marred only by an unbelievably bad, phoned-in David Duchovny voice “performance” as the main character.
I just played it a few months ago. I’m a sucker for average to below average shooters. I like shooting at men for 6-8 hours and then putting the game away forever. This worked fine for that even though there wasn’t much to it that got me excited.
I think the bite size levels from the Xbox era actually helped. I could load it up, beat a couple stages, then go play something else.

From GOG:
[ul]
[li]Exciting espionage story and fast paced action[/li][li]Top-notch voice acting preformed by actors such as David Duchovny and Adam West[/li][li]‘Cel-shaded’ graphics and comic book like narration brings the experience of the acclaimed comic book to life on your computer[/li][/ul]
I never played XIII my own self, but I’ll get it once it goes on sale for its soundtrack.
Oh, and their weekend sale is pretty good if you already own all the good games on the list (i.e. Ground Control, Lords of the Realm…). I for one hate the Empire Earth series, so I’ll be skipping them.
