Whu? There’s multilevel menus, but they’re not complicated. It’s like Navigator (enter) -> Navigation (enter) -> arrow keys to navigate. You do have to go to a previous button to go to another console, but it wasn’t cumbersome, at least not to me.
If anything, you understate the problem, Peterb. But Starflight 2 is basically the exact same game. The really notable differences are that SF2 is 500% less clunky, and have graphics that hold up reasonably well today.
Starflight does have a problem with producing interesting stuff, though. Random exploration isn’t at all interesting, and becomes kind of soul crushingly boring when you’re forced to do it. Also, I strongly recommend comprehensive note taking. Getting lost/stuck is pretty easy in both games.
throws down gauntlet The hell you say, sir.
Really? You think mining is fun? Really-really?
- But hey, if you really think so, UQM will blow your mind. It has the exact same thing, but the execution is incredibly much better than SFs.
I do, actually. What do you think I spent much of my time doing in Jumpgate and EVE? ;)
And yeah, I’m aware of how refined UQM is. I’ve played it my own self, and yet I still think SF is the superior game.
What I think? I think you have OCD :p

I do too, actually. And to be perfectly honest, I think SF1 is the most compelling. But SF2 is a hell of a lot more user friendly, and UQM easily has them both beat in the random exploration/mining department. Then again, the SFs were two of the first games I ever played, and I’ve always been a bit of a space nut, so… They pretty much blew my mind. I think SF1 more so than any game has since, to be honest.
… Also, I was not very old back then :)
I possibly have OCD, but yeah, it’s fun.
Today is the ‘riding with the outlaws’ reveal and it is indeed Desperados. I don’t think I’d even heard of it before, but I did love the old Commandos games…
(Edit: Not so sure I like the “even more challenging difficulty level!” part of it, though; Commandos was pretty tough at times to begin with!)
Oohhh, I’ve never played Desperados but always wanted to, and it has a soundtrack! Sold!
I played through about half of Desperados, and, yeah, it was even more difficult than the Commandos games. But reloading from a save takes half a second, and the western atmosphere is a nice change for this type of game.
90% of Desperados is pretty good. The final parts… not so good.

New release today is Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard.
The new sale is 60% (or 75% if you buy them all) off JoWood games. Some of the games include Painkiller, Spellforce, Panzer Elite, Gothic 2, Darkfall, Aquanox, and The Guild Gold.
Was that good? This is one of those games that fell through the cracks for me. My systems wasn’t good enough to run it when it came out and by the time I upgraded, I moved on to whatever was shinier.

I seem to remember someone (Tom maybe?) liking this a lot. Of course there was also a joke about dragon’s hard as well.
You can’t be serious!
Commandos - Behind Enemy Lines is way harder than any Desperados game.
Desperados had a ton of things to use to split up / distract enemies whereas the very first Commandos has very little.
I breezed through Desperados back then compared to Commandos - Behind Enemy Lines that I couldn’t beat back then and only finished after having bought it from GoG begin of this year.
Commandos 2 and 3 are way easier though so in that case Desperados is harder I agree. Even Commandos - Beyond the Call of Duty is way easier than the first game but still on par with Desperados I think.
As Jowood is bankrupt one better jumps on this deal and gets whatever he / she wants as it might be that the games are pulled soon (depending on who will gain the rights to the games)!
Games have been pulled from GoG in the past already however back then due to licensing agreements that expired (Codemaster’s Colin McRae for example).
I would also download and backup them asap as well (again Colin McRae is NOT available on GoG anymore even for people that bought it (like myself))!
Depends. How good is that good? :p
The single player gameplay is kind of a blend of The Lord of The Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.
The campaign is pretty good and - if memory serves - has the same sort of feel the WarCraft 3 campaign had.
Skirmish/MP I’m fairly sure I found underwhelming. Though I’m not actually sure I ever played a MP match. I seem to recall Clerics being massively über.
Basically: it’s worth getting if you like RTS campaigns. If you don’t, it doesn’t offer a whole lot IMO.
Yeah, it’s a really good game. One that slipped totally under the radar for the majority of gamers, sadly.
Apparently it was quite good. I own it, this reminds me I should give it a try.
