I remember wanting to play that when it was new but for some reason I never did. Is it any good?

I played it when the game came out, but it was dissappointing to me. A little too much A in my RPG, and even that wasn’t well done for my taste. Mind you, this is coming from someone who liked the Baldurs Gate XBox series.

I played it for about an hour or so on the PS2 when it came out. I was really looking forward to a R.A. Salvatore authored game, but somehow the game didn’t really catch. It might have been really good though, and I could have been occupied with another game.

Demon Stone really isn’t an RPG so much as a brawler with a shallow character upgrade tree. Think the LOTR brawlers - I believe it’s the same folks. I thought it wasn’t -bad- but it also wasn’t terrifically exciting.

I think I’ll pass then. I did love the Baldurs Gate Xbox games, though. I must have put a hundred hours into those with one of my friends.

Yeah, this game looks meh, and not even a soundtrack in the extras. Pass.

Important question: Which Free RPG should I pick for my Witcher 2 pre-order?

First choice would be Divine Divinity. After that I’d go with Planescape: Torment or Baldur’s Gate 2.

Definitively go with Divine Divinity.

Gothic 2 is one of the best open world RPGs ever made, Divine Divinity is a great action RPG with proper plot and C&C, and the first two Realms of Arkania games are great old school combat RPGs. Choose between these according to your taste.

Edit: Divine Divinity is awesome and all, but it really isn’t inequivocally better than the other games I mention here. It really depends on what you usually like.

Gothic 2 Gold is also very good, is it? I would pick that… but i have it in Steam.

Another vote for Divine Divinity.

Sadly, BG2 and Torment aren’t available as freebies with the preorder.

That said, I’ll chime in with most everybody and say that Divine Divinity is the best of those on the list. Sure, the graphics aren’t anything to write home about, but the gameplay and humor are great.

Ah, I wasn’t aware of what was on the list and what wasn’t, but yes, DD has the most…soul of any RPG I’ve played in the last decade.

Gothic 2 doesn’t work well with my ATI 5850 in Windows XP. It lags badly in certain outdoor scenes. It works on my HTPC running Windows 7 and a cheaper ATI video card. I don’t know the specific cause but wanted to give you fair warning.

Divine Divinity has more plot and character interaction than pretty much any other Diablo-like ARPG I can think of, -and- it also has surprisingly detailed world simulation, including things like being able to combine stacks of hay to produce a makeshift bed.

DD and G2 are both wonderful, personally I love exploration in games and that is a huge part of G2, so I would get that. But seriously both are worth playing.

If I recall right, they didn’t have Win7 compatibility listed for Gothic 2.

I’ve played it on Windows 7 64bit without any issues.

Really? I can’t even get it to load up in Win7 64bit.
