Hmmmm I wonder if System Shock and Syndicate not being there are another GOG stunt. Maybe they’ll release the whole calendar and then go “OH WAIT! WE WERE JOKING ABOUT System Shock AND Syndicate! ON THE STORE NOW!”

Totally snagging DK and Privateer. Never played the UU games though, they work getting?

It depends on the person, but i suspect they are too retro (and too “prototype” of later gaming experiences) for the average player.

Ugh. No Righteous Fire with Privateer due “to licensing concerns”. Uh, guys, it’s an expansion to a game you have the rights for, made by the same people and the same company.

Maybe the RF install introduces some ancient godawful DOS-based codec that GoG can’t get the rights too, or something; otherwise WUT

It plays like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpuTbxkaZ94

I loved it at the time. I have great memories of it. Not sure how enjoyable it will be in 2011.

So any idea on the control scheme for Privateer? I had a joystick once upon a time, but now, no.

I just played a bit of DK. The sound skips a bit and the mouse is a tad too sensitive, but other than that, FUCKING FUN. :) I forgot how hilarious the announcer’s voice is. ;)

Incidentally, I’m way more excited about EA than I ever would have been about LucasArts. LucasArts has some great games in their history, no question…but they’ve made quite a few of them available elsewhere and have, really, been pretty good about caretaking their back catalog (as these things go). EA’s sitting on several studio purchases worth of awesome in addition to the games they made internally back in the day (when they weren’t a monolithic corporate juggernaut), and up until now they’d been very aggressive about preventing people from offering their older games for download on abandonware sites and similar, while not actually doing anything to offer a legitimate purchasing option, a worst of both worlds situation that had me livid more than once. Their decision to hook up with GoG is, in this light, a hell of a breakthrough.

If gog.com keeps rolling like this, my physical CD books are going to get sad and lonely. DK and Crusader are neat. SMAC and Magic Carpet are unbelievable. So many potential greats on that list with EA. I don’t remember playing Privateer, though.

Looking forward to finally playing SMAC.

With the Planetary Pack, hopefully.

And, wow! Is there any way we can get GOG listed as a national treasure, or monument? There is such a wealth of the history of PC games on this site, all (mostly) running on the latest generation of computers for all of us who remember these classics, plus giving the young 'uns a chance to play, that if it were ever to vanish …

Long live GOG.

What? Crusader? Seriously?

Goosebumps, I tell ya…

I have been waiting for this day for a long time. Pretty much since my Windows 98 machine bit the dust.

I have the disk versions of a lot of these but I’ll still buy the GoG versions in a heartbeat.

Yeah. Although this totally kills the resale value of my Alien Crossfire disc…

Assuming they’ll have it. Which, you know, fingers crossed…but there are no guarantees.

Feh, I’m glad it’s bringing down the outrageous prices in the secondary market.

Ultima Underworld felt really far ahead of its time. I can’t believe this came out pre-Doom. I remember being totally blown away back in 1992.

Does this make you want to play RIGHT NOW? I certainly want to go play it.

Wow, I wanna play it too. Looks sorta cool!

/drool.

And check out what a cool interface it has. I love the dragons curling down the left and right sides of the viewport, occasionally wiggling their tail or extending their talons. The graphics and sound even still hold up a bit. I remember being totally blown away by the two games.
