If I had to, I would pay more than that to not have to play it again.

Any thoughts on Kingpin, Shogo, and Die by the Sword? Any of them worth it these days?

Never played Kingpin, but Shogo definitely. I enjoyed Die by the Sword but it might look long in the tooth graphically, if you care about such things. Great gameplay though.

Kingpin was a serviceable if forgettable shooter IIRC, with for its time “edgy” gang/urban dialog and situations, as well a more or less graphic violence. In today’s shooter universe I rather doubt it will shock anyone.

No, it’s not. And I’m one of the people who thought Arcanum was pretty good.

Wow, that is a seriously cool list of $3 games. Fully half that list is well worth playing at twice the price, and half of the remainder becomes worth playing at the $3 price point. In fact, it’s easier to list the titles I wouldn’t pay $3 to play:

Battle Chess Special Edition (doesn’t age well)
Invictus: In the Shadow of Olympus (was not terribly fun to begin with)
Kingdom: The Far Reaches (Boring “Dragon’s Lair” type game)
Kingpin: Life of Crime (never played this, reviews were not favorable)
Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader (was a giant mess, great concept, flawed execution)
Messiah (Buggy FPS where you play a cherub, seriously, a cherub, named Bob)
Redneck Rampage Collection (um…no)
Screamer (The only one on the list I’ve never even heard of)
VR Soccer '96 (It’s soccer, from 1996)

Oh yeah, avoid Messiah like the plague (though I’ll snag it for its soundtrack). I can also second Invictus’ “meh-ness”.

Redneck Rampage probably doesn’t age well (it was pretty much a one-trick-pony joke anyhow, if sometimes kinds of fun) but it did have a few things going for it. The drive in and trailer park levels weren’t bad, and you did get that voice clip of the old codger saying “git off my land!”

I wouldn’t mind getting Descent 1-3, which I loved (especially Decent 2, I don’t remember 3 much…?) back in the day. I own everything Fallout (and by the way, Tactic was incredible, I loved it, though it’s almost ZERO story or non-combat elements, the turn based combat (and real time combat, if were rushing passed easy fights) was excellent. It was also a very pretty game, and I thought it still was a few years back when I replayed it.

Redneck Rampage was a good fun back in 97, but what I like most about it is its soundtrack. It is 100% different from what I usually listen, but for some reason I love it. Mojo Nixon, Rev Horton Heat…heh. So awesome.

It was a buggy nightmare that I think finished off Shiny, but it had some really good ideas and I found it genuinely disturbing at times.

Any idea if Descent 3 would work with a 360 gamepad?

Just as a response to some of the above: Redneck Rampage is terrible. Flat levels in boring layouts, badly-balanced weapons, and an overall amateurish feel. The soundtrack is awesome, though.

What scharmers said, but I don’t remember the sound track…

The soundtrack is fun and quite lively.

Can find the rest of the songs linked off of this title track.

I also recommend

Die by the Sword is worth it just for the arena fighting. You can even set up AI matchups of kobolds vs an ogre (or whatever the big guy was.) Great stuff…

That one is my favourite off the soundtrack, along with the last one by Mojo Nixon.

Arcanum IS pretty damn good, no question about it. But I’ll take everyone’s word for Lionheart sucking.

You would think so, but I played Fallout 1 and Fallout tactics and enjoyed both but for some reason didn’t play Fallout 2 back then.
There is always something that GOG is tempting me with it seems, thank God everything is dirt cheap on these sales.
