Anyone have any thoughts on Earth 2150 and Earth 2160? Is 2160 better (better AI, etc.), worse, or just different?
Never played 2160, but I enjoyed the 2150 games quite a bit.
This HD fan patch for Heroes III is amazing, I love PC gaming!
Finally finishing the Armageddon’s Blade campaigns, it has been a few years since I beat Shadow of Death and even longer when I played the original.
Heroes III is in my top ten favorite games of all time list. The only “big” problem I had with the game was that you can’t load a savegame in combat and even that was fixed by the patch.
Heroes III is practically a perfect game, even the graphics have aged gracefully because they are 2D (see? I’m no graphics whore ;) )!
The games are different. But, I think 2150 is better, 2160 never really grabbed me. Get 2150 it’s a great game.
Eh… 2150 is the middle of the series, right? If so, I’m with DocLazy. 2160 is perfectly decent and much, much prettier, but 2150 is one of the greats. There’s some fan patchiness you should get for it, though. If for no other reason than to get the framerate un-capped. I’m sure GOGs forum have links & whatnot.
I remember 10 years ago being “meh” on Knights and Merchants after trying the demo a couple of times. Today… With the Steam Summer Sale, the chance of me making GoG purchases has been reduced.
Oooohhh, Dark Reign is FINALLY on sale. Totally snagged it for $4. :-)

Why? Total Annihilation came out like a month later and did everything better.
Brian doesn’t need a reason (I wonder if he has time to play all these games).
Today’s gog deal is Strategic Command: European Theater. Hmmm, I see mixed reviews for this.
I really like SC:ET, but it’s true that there’s not a whole lot to recommend it. It’s a cheap, basic, relatively-fast playing European Theatre WW2 game. It’s not quite as fast-playing as Axis & Allies, but for a units-on-a-grid wargame, it’s very fast. For me, that’s it’s primary appeal. To play Hearts of Iron, you kind of need to be a university student or a retiree with a bunch of time on your hands. Even the Slitherine game - Commander Europe at War, I think it’s called - you sort of want to set aside a day - or a weekend. SC:ET can be played to completion in… 4 hours? Maybe? Depends on how intense you are about it, I guess. There are some quirks that don’t make perfect sense but as a fairly “gamey” WW2 game there’s nothing wrong with it.
Anyway, I feel like I got good value out of it at $10. If you like wargames, $4 is a good bet.
I actually enjoyed playing both, and I enjoyed some things in DR more, like the ability to tweak AI profiles and such.
Tried it, thanks, but it doesn’t scale it. So on high resolutions, I can’t see anything because it’s so small!

I’m not sure if this was listed but I noticed Rollercoaster Tycoon: Deluxe, which everyone should own by now:
Heh, we were all over that shit like white on rice. Runs great too. :)
Is it even worth playing anymore, with 2 sequels out?

The first RCT felt more charming. I like the fact the scenarios were locked away, so finishing a park felt like an accomplishment, and the reward was a new place to play in. Yes, I think it is worth playing, especially at that price. It was somewhat therapeutic I think making a park that provided real feedback with the various theme park noises and the delight of the guests as they walked around and went on my creations.
RCT 2 allowed for some amazing park designs in contrast as was my preferred game because of the scope of custom objects available for it.
I never touched RCT3 given how bad it was at launch though it seems to be the crowd favourite I think.
No, it isn’t. Most RCT fans hate RCT 3. The park sim part of the game is completely broken. It is popular with Rollercoaster fans since the coaster design interface is one of the best.
