If anyone wants to get their Myst on, all of Cyan’s games are 50% off at GoG this weekend.
Hm well the point for me is that it hopefully sends a powerful message to some publishers sitting on a shit-ton of ancient IPs:
“Someone wants those games and will pay for them!”
As EA joined up with GoG is a sign that these signals were heard to a certain extend (given how small GoG started back then) and that makes me happy.
So I probably will buy those 2 EA games although they are a bit buggy to keep supporting EA’s behaviour to let some of their IPs re-surface.
Also with these versions some guys can try to make them work as they are universally available now instead of requiring people having the original media or downloaded a version from some abandonware site.
So everyone can work on the exact same version which always is a plus.
Kinda wondering if the brighter one might not be Centurion: Defender of Rome.
My psychic powers are telling me…the next games shall be Ultima (I-IV), and Populous next week, with Ultima IV free to everyone!
(Huh? What PC Gamer article? I don’t know what you’re talking about.)
Original Populous only? Bleh. Populous 2, or a Populous pack is more like it.
It would be consistent for GoG to offer Populous as a pack that included I and II and possibly Populous: The Beginning.
Same with Ultima, the only question there is how they’d divide the games up. There’s a lot of ways they could do it with nine titles, though I suspect we’d see no more than one or two bundles at most. Maybe I-VI for one and VII-IX for the other.
Other possible EA games: more Wing Commander and maybe a few other Origin titles like Bioforge, Strike Commander or heck, maybe even CyberMage.
Well according to PC Gamer, the first Ultima bundle will be just I-III, with IV as a separate freebie. I know they want to maximize their profits, but hopefully they don’t get too silly with the bundling; split it up too much, and it’ll wind up costing nearly as much as the whole Ultima Collection CD did when it was new!
Yeah, I don’t know how many would bite at a bundle of just I-III. I know I wouldn’t.

[LEFT]I pick it up just for Ultima IV. And I’m guessing that was the point of the sale.

You can already get Ultima IV for free. You have to configure it through DOSBox on your own, though, so one could argue there is value in having GoG do that part for you.
And Ultima IV is going to be a separate freebie, not bundled with 1-3. I have no interest in 1-3, can’t imagine many people do. From everything I’ve heard, the things that got people excited about the series began with IV. And V, VI, and especially VII are the ones that stand out. I was kinda figuring they’d do a I-V pack, maybe wrap in VI. Essentially throw in the first three (and maybe Akalabeth) as bonuses rather than something that can carry a pack on their own. Then do VI onwards as individual or two packs…though I doubt a VIII-IX pairing would sell much. Also, hoping they’ll do a Worlds of Ultima pack.
I dunno, I wouldn’t mind robbing a few shops blind and shooting down TIE Fighters again.
Then do VI onwards as individual or two packs…though I doubt a VIII-IX pairing would sell much.
I’d buy the shit out of that two-pack, although I think IX will probably be a standalone. I wonder if modern PCs can run IX with the infinite draw distance on.

Sorry. My understanding was that IV was free with I-III. In that case no, I won’t be paying for the first three.

Ultima III is actually pretty darn good. I have a soft spot for U II, but I wouldn’t actually tell anyone to buy it. But III is ok.
Ultima I was a fucking revelation at the time, though it’s now a museum piece. I think III would probably still be quite fun, but IV was a big leap from III.
Ultima III was one of my first fantasy RPG’s, I had to go over to a friends house to play it. Love love love that game.

They only announced Populous 1, and with the Ultimas they very specifically mentioned all 4 titles separately.
I understand they were giving out milk and cookies. Here is a pick of cookies:
I give them a lot of flack for the terrible closing pr but this was inspired!
