tfernando just said that. Pirate is a gender.

One patch ? Are you kidding me ? At first there seemed to be an auto-patcher witihin the client, then the patcher disappeared, and at one time you had to get the GoG specific version of the 1.1 patch, then patch 1.2 and 1.3. If you didn’t get the good 1.1 patch, it still installed, but then you couldn’t apply the 1.2 patch…

I just stopped bothering (the fact that the game didn’t grab didn’t help either) me. I guess now they may have sorted their shit out. They even had to put a convoluted FAQ on their website where most of the customers are nostalgic of games from the DOS / Win 95. Those guys are the grognard PC gamers, slightly less hardcore than Linux luddites trying to emulate Saturn games.

I did the whole config.sys gig back in the day to play the Ultimas, but now I don’t have time for that kind of tinkering. And no, that’s not something a PC gamer should expect on a relatively high profile title bought on a reliable gaming service. Yeah that was a rant. Sorry about that.

TL, DR : I fought the war when I was younger, now get me a brand new Cadillac, or something like that.

Seriously, what? I reinstalled the game few days ago in preparation for 2.0, and procedure was:

  1. Execute install file
  2. Wait for installation to finish, then close the old nonupdated launcher
  3. Download patch 1.0 -> 1.35 from GOG (it is among the install files where you download the game), install it.
  4. Play the game.

As for before, if you had the game from gog, the latest patch was always included among the install files, so…no problem.
I suppose if you were getting patches from thewitcher.com and they were not for gog version, there could have been a problem…or something.

This the main problem I have with GoG:
You can’t easily see whether files have been updated since you downloaded something you bought from them.
In theory I should re-download all my purchases once per year to make sure I have the latest versions…

I haven’t found any “changelog” or something on their website which is pretty stupid given that it might save them download costs.

Thankfully, the gaming industry consists of a very solidary bunch of companies where one stands in for another.
Thus, Relic has taken it upon themselves to create the most idiotic, cumbersome and infuriating patching system, so that all other developers and/or publishers can always point to them and rightfully claim: “At least we’re better than these guys!”.

Agreed, but I think in most cases there is nothing to update and so majority of games are up to date. Still, in some rare cases when update is done, it would be good to have some changelog.

The 6 million “unique downloads” is going to hit soon. I won’t get jack. Why? Because I already own Broken Sword: Shadow of The Templars Director’s Cut via GOG. Will they substitute something else to customers like me, as they have with past promotions? No. Boo to GOG. BOO! And a boo to Tom too. Tom O not Tom C.

Heh. Your “complaint” reminds me of the deal they offered with Witcher 2, where you got one of six GOG games for free on a preorder … one of six which I already had or didn’t want. I don’t have Broken Sword, so I suppose this will increase my tally with GOG, but I wasn’t really wanting the game too much in the first place.

Broken Sword is now free until October 1, at 7:59 a.m. EDT

Only to non-customers. :P

  • of said game.
Am I bitter? Why, yes. A little.

Guess what.

Nobody cares.

FUCK YOU!!

I’m in the same boat, so I care. A little.

I’ll never play Broken Sword, but I’ll happily download and listen to its soundtrack, so yay!

I just 2 minutes ago read this comment on RPS :-).

And hmpf, I found out I already own the game. I didn’t even know that. Dammit, I want something else because I am a spoiled internet brat !!11!!!1

Thanks for the heads-up!

I make sure all my bases are covered. ;)

Tried to download Broken Sword but it seems their online store is incredibly overloaded.

Any of you that already had the game tried contacting GoG? I ask because when they had a promotion in the past where they gave away a game I already had, they offered me an alternate game (actually a choice between five, IIRC).
