I’ve always wanted to play Rebellion multiplayer, since I think that’s where it would have a chance to shine, instead of the Empire magically knowing where your HQ is or the Rebels amassing a death fleet on the Outer Rim for years and then sweeping the Core worlds one at a time.
I loved Missionforce: Cyberstorm, but I loved it for the multiplayer. That was great. Unfortunately, the only way to play over the internet was to use a LAN spoofer like Kali, so even if GOG was able to sell it, I’m not sure internet play would be possible.
Huh, I’ve actually never played MF:C in multiplayer. Might I ask why you loved it over the single player?
Yeah. This thread does make me wish they’d put on SSI games. Many of my favorites, though, didn’t have a PC release or had one that was inferior to the Amiga/ST release. However, the Imperialisms would be nice.
SSI releases would be tricky, since they’re masked by two defunct companies (Mindscape and The Learning Company).

SSI’s Veil of Darkness was one of my favourite games back in the day. I would pick it up just for nostalgia’s sake if it ever became available.
Damn you for trying to crush my dreams. Again.
Every time this thread gets bumped I eagerly check to see if GOG now has Imperialism. Hope springs eternal.
Not sure if this is cool or not, but you can get them if you look up and join the Imperialism Yahoo group. Trade Empires as well.
Well, for one thing it’s playing against a human instead of an AI.
But there was also a metagame going on regarding mech choices and loadouts. Strategies evolved and counters evolved. It was pretty cool. At one point one of the tough strategies to beat was a player going for the mechs that could fire the longest range missiles. Even though the mechs were shielded, some splash damage got through the shields every time they were hit with a missile, so if you had a lot of those mechs firing missiles, you could take down an enemy mech at long range in a couple of turns.
Multiplayer was a lot more challenging than single player.
HEh, fair enough. There’s likely some Kali-type utility to let folks play today, I’d reckon.
You’d need GOG to reissue it if you hoped to get a critical mass of players for online play. I’m not even sure where my copy is now. When I played it there were maybe 30+ players into the multiplayer, so every evening there would be 10-15 players on looking for games. It was fun, but then a game called Diablo was released and the games dried up overnight.
I remember I was hanging out in a game lobby and someone from Sierra was running a tournament, and another player and I were chatting while waiting for things to get straightened out, and we both said you know, I’d rather be playing Diablo right now, and that was it for Missionforce: Cyberstorm.
And Cyberstorm 2 was a disappointing mess.
AAwww, that’s sad. I would love to see GoG resurrect it somehow. I’ll be honest in that I wasn’t disappointed with CS2 because I heard it was inferior to MF:C from the get go. Lower expectations led to a fun time, but I only ever finished one game and haven’t played it since, whereas MF:C has received many playthroughs over the years.
When I checked the Good Old Games website this morning, I saw this:
GOG.com Joins Opposition to SOPA & PIPA
That was something quite different from the weekend special I was hoping for.
Facebook post from Friday:
No Weekend Promo this time, but get ready for some really big news next week on GOG.com ;)
Hope that is not only the anti-SOPA stance…

It better be LucasArts signing on with GoG.

Or all the Gold Box games! Although I suspect the D&D licence on those probably expired eons ago, rendering them unsaleable.
Big news! One of our most requested classic games is coming to @GOGcom on the 19th. Hint: its name starts with S
I bet on System Shock given that EA is already a publisher on GOG.
Already there. I played the Amiga version back in the day, but this is the DOS version.
