Why wouldn’t they be able to run?
I get that Deus Ex is a heavy hitter, and that even if Hitman 1 is no great shakes, the rest of the series is good stuff. But why lead with games that have been available for ages on every single digital distributor when they could be selling stuff like Thief and Anachronox that nobody else has?
You have a point. I got Deus Ex for free years ago on some compilation disc with a bunch of other games from PC Gamer. It’s not exactly a hard to find game.
Maybe it’s like a slow build up to the awesome? As Jon Stewart might say, releasing the best games up front is like Rick Springfield starting a concert right off with “Jesse’s Girl.” ;-)
And yet, that’s been their pattern with previous publisher additions - open with a bang, then alternate between various levels of excitement for a while. My concern is that GoG seems to feel that these particular games -do- constitute opening with a bang.
Huh, that’s concerning if that is the case.
Heh, what’s it say about me that I own all but 6 of those games? ;)

I’m so happy I could sneak up behind somebody in the dark, cosh them on the head, heave them over my shoulder, lumber off slowly, drop them in a deep pond and hear them gurgle and die, at which point I will take advantage of the greatest word ever invented by Lewis Caroll and chortle.
OK, who’s going to be the guinea pig and confirm whether the Thief mods work or not?
EDIT: Ugh, user reviews seem to indicate that the old TTLG tricks still have to be applied to get the game working properly. Disappointing.

Give me Thief 2 and this whole enterprise will be worthwhile. Sure, I have a copy from that old Deus Ex compilation disk that some magazine (CGW, maybe?) put out a decade ago, but I really want a GOG version.
Seriously? Weird. I’m running Win 7 32 bit, and the game ran fine when I tried it a year or so ago.
Thief is one of the few games I played in my formative years that I loved back then but doesn’t set my heart aflutter these days. Maybe that’s because I only played it once (plus the sequel). With all my other favorites from that era, I’ve recently replayed them or an expansion pack I had missed or a megamod that jogged my memory.
Including the cinematics? I’ve never seen a fresh install of Thief on a modern system that didn’t make you futz around to get them working. Maybe you live a charmed life. :)
Yeah, ran just fine. shrug. It was on some DVD that has all three games, so maybe it’s special, I dunno.
The movies aren’t working for some people, but they also report that running it as admin or registering a DLL can get it working.
What’s surprising is that while Thief 1 is one of the most hacked-to-get-to-work games around, GoG pretty much redid the installer, ran an IMAGECFG to kick the executable to single processor, and then called it good. No DDFIX, safe_mode_texture fix, register DLL fix, nothing.
I mean, nice release and all, but c’mon.
