“Anachronox! Man, you guys are dumb!”

“But… you said it started with a ‘U’?”

I still have my CD copy of Anachronox that I never installed (bought it as one of the games often mentioned here as classic). Should it still work on Win7?

Think so. I bought a copy off eBay a few years back and played it on Vista, would imagine it’s 7 compatible.

Pretty nice day for GoG, bringing in one of the most-requested titles out there, and an old sim held in very high regard by the grognards of the day. Like +1

Wouldn’t mind seeing System Shock 2 on there. I don’t know if EA is saving it for a quarter when they need a boost to the financials or it they’re saving it in case they ever come out with a System Shock 3.

I did do a trademark database search on System Shock 2, and some random company in Michigan that’s unaffiliated with gaming seems to own the trademarks. Makes me think it might be a rights issue.

I’ve heard great things, like it’s a medieval Commandos, but better than Commandos. This reminds me that I actually own it, yet haven’t played it. I should fix that.

Yeah, a great day for GoG. I might be odd in that I was much more excited about Hind than Anachronox though. ;)

I adored Anachronox more often than I did not. They will be getting my money for this.

Journeyman Project 3 is the new hotness. $6.

Meh.5

Yeah, my wallet is safe today.

Wow…the Journeyman Project…that takes me back, if nothing else.

Its Commandos with RPG elements, and you can hire genric squadies, train them up. manage and upgrade your fortress base. Its IMO the pinnacle of the Commandos genre. I worked on (beta tester) for the original Commandos and loved it (so that’s saying a lot).

I know that some people, Including Tom didnt enjoy the mouse driven combat control, but it was very intuitive for me personally. I had robin keep entire squads busy while my tanks would go behind and knock everyone out. It tooks some finesse, but when it worked it felt very rewarding herding half a map with Robin hood alone and having the rest of my team knock out the occupied bad guys from behind. It was very thematic as well. Robin could keep a entire company busy without much hassle, but sometimes struggled to take down a boss without help.

Yeah, Robin Hood is very like Desperados.

I also appreciated that the game would periodically change things up, you would have to adapt, but you could usually use the very tactics that Robin would use in the various TV/movie shows to beat the new situation. As I said, very big fan of the thematic nature of the game, and of course I love the inclusion of RPG elements.

I never played Desperados beyond a few minute, does it also have a RPG lite element to it, where you can train people up? I played the first for about 10 minutes and it never really stuck for me.

No, it didn’t have that. That was something I didn’t care for in Robin Hood, to be honest. I think Robin uses the same engine as Desperados, right?

For those of you who have played Anachronox once, is it worth it going through it again? You know, because of… spoilers…?

Everytime I read the title ‘Anachronox’ I have to think of a game similar to Baldur’s Gate which had a tech/steam punk/fantasy theme and wasn’t completely finished (I think), now what was it called again?

Arcanum.
