That’s it! Thank you!

Yoinks! And Away!

An little freebie from GOG, described as a platformer, rpg, adventure.

Can’t argue with free. (but go to his website and donate, if that’s your thing.)

Update:

Okay, it seems I can’t even get out of the title screen. 360 gamepad connected, can scroll the options, but no way to enable them. Same story with M+K.

I guess I can argue with free.

Update 2: Go to the game folder, run setup.exe. Change to ‘joypad’. Works okay.

An announcement that GOG’s going to begin selling not-old games next week seems imminent.

I am cautiously excited.

I believe they’ll be presenting an indie catalog as well. Not sure about this week or not but I wouldn’t be surprised if they announced Grimrock’s availability on Gog.

4 videos in 4 days… These guys are PR geniuses.

It would be great if they did start selling DRM-free games whether old or new.

Yeah! Super awesome news! Can’t wait to see some Good Indie Games get the GOG treatment :)

found the vids quite funny

I was looking at the promo list and I’ve never played Outcast or any of the Roller Coaster Tycoon series. How are they? And is there a huge difference between RCT1 and RCT 2?

RCT2 has more stuff (ride types, minor improvements, etc.) but RCT1 is generally considered to have the better maps. The second game generally assumes you already played the relatively “standard” maps in the first game and are looking for more interesting challenges. I know it’s possible to use the maps from the first game in the second and that they’re floating around on the internet somewhere, but both games are really worth owning if you think they’re interesting enough to consider buying one of them.

Outcast is quite an amazing game really, if you like huge, immersive s-f CRPGs that take a long time and have lots of quests without much hand-holding. If you’ve ever wondered what it would feel like to be John Carter or Adam Strange, marooned on an alien world, this will give you that feeling.

There are some high rez addons and tweak packages and stuff (you can find out on the dedicated forum at GOG) that make it, if not exactly up to date, at least not totally blocky on a modern comp. Also, the weapons in default combat have a very slow travel time (making the combat a bit too easy), but that can be tweaked now.

Quite frankly, there’s been nothing quite like it before or since, though there ought to have been.

I guess if you were to compare, it’s sort of like a Bethesda game, but with an epic s-f setting.

…Precursors?

Nah. Precursors is pretty much a straight FPS with a lot of freedom to roam about. Outcast is … weird. And very, very textually verbose. And not at all interested in leading players around by the nose.

I always thought Omikron was a kind of urban Outcast, probably because I played them around the same time. And they were both Belgian/French I think.

I remember Outcast runs at 512 x 384, so hopefully that’s been tweaked up :)

But only with a monster CPU!

(At that time of course! Voxels!)

With this weeks coming relaunch of GoG.com I have read they will start offering indie games - could gog.com be who Legend of Grimrock hinted at would be selling their game earlier? They weren’t allowed to divulge just who it would be sold through, perhaps this is why?

That’d be one helluva entry to come out of the park with, no qestion.

I have enough reason to be 99% sure of it. Gog (very graciously) turned down my game due to the fact it isn’t new and for lack of testing resources. They’re going for new releases… Grimrock happens to be coming out in April…

Told ya :-)
