I think 4 is the best of them, although that might just be because I had the most time to dig into it, and it had a really compelling setting. I did play through 5, and I think it’s better than many people give it credit for, but it just wasn’t as memorable as 4.

I played the VGA remake of 1, but I’ve only ever played the original EGA version of 2, so there’s even something new for me in there if I go through the whole series.

I kind of want to find my old 486 in my parent’s boxes and retrieve my old character files, but that would be crazy, right?

Not so crazy. I still have a 3.5" disk I’ve saved for years because it has my QfG character on it among other saves. Though I haven’t had a system that could read it for probably 6 years now.

I think I’m in for Zeus + Poseidon, since I sniffed around Caesar 3 a bunch but held off because everyone said Zeus is much better.

Zeus is better, but Emperor is better still.

What now!?

Saved me $10 then LOL

Does the entire qfg series let you become a paladin and continue as one? Iirc 2 let you become one was this honored moving forward?

Lies!!!

I’m in the same boat, I just wish the PC version could work with an XBox controller.

Yes. I remember playing through 1-4 as a paladin from the second one forward. IIRC the fourth one also gives you an option to become a paladin, but I’m not sure.

I have wanted to try the Quest for Glory series for some time.

You can through your actions as a fighter or wizard in 2 become a paladin at the end and be able to start 3 as one, or you can earn enough honor in 3 I believe to become one as well. I never really liked the class, as I found going for the “honor” points to get it were kind of a slog, and I liked doing thief like things as well which decrease your honor points.

In the later games, I believe the paladin class is available to any imported characters.

Also, for those new to the QfG games, I recommend the unofficial (but entirely awesome) QfG2 fan remake.

Yeah. Becoming a paladin in 2 is a huge pain in the ass. IIRC, you have to literally type “thank you” a lot.

If you want to be a paladin, do what everybody else did, and at the end of 2, modify your save file to be one, or I believe you can start as a paladin in 3 (in case you made paladin in 2 but lost your save file, donchaknow). Fighter’s the least interesting class though.

Quest for Glory was so amazing, I’m glad GoG finally released it. I think I’m gonna have to buy it again. :-)

I don’t know that I ever played as a paladin, but I do know that I managed to get a pretty decent build in the first one that allowed me to be basically proficient in thief and magic and still OKAY at combat, and while it might arguably have been nearly overpowered, it sure was fun to have choices as to how to handle things.

Oh, and there’s some quirkiness with hybrid characters in QfG5, where certain class-specific stuff overrides other class-specific stuff based on your skills and not on your “official” class designation. This can get you killed in the finale, say, if you annoy the gangsters.

The GOG version would be nice, because it turns out the classic anthology is a pain to get working.

THANK YOU.

This works perfectly. 1920x1080 glory. Praise be the Greek Gods.

I can’t get over how well games like this get such a new lease of life with a resolution mod. Baldurs Gate, Fallout 2 etc.

Quest for Glory has to be one of my earlier games, coming only after Kyrandia and maybe King’s Quest. I loved the freedom in Quest for Glory and being chased down in the middle of the night by scary things.

I remember mostly playing as an op hybrid thief so I figured I wold try fighter/Mage this go around. It is really impressive how much stuff qfg pioneered.

So happy to see Zeus/Poseidon, and it was an instant buy for me. Installed it along with the WS mod and am enjoying it again already. It holds up remarkably well.

Here’s hoping that Pharoah/Cleopatra is in the works! (Also Emperor, but I actually still have my Emperor CD.)

I’ll totally be getting Zeus soon, even though I have the disks to those and the others you mentioned, but I’d also love to have all of Impressions’ greatest city builders digitally as well. Caesar 3, Pharoah/Cleopatra, Zeus/Poseidon and Emperor…sigh…the greatest examples of the genre I think.
