What’s wrong with Heroes of Annihilated Empires? It looks nifty.

Yeah I am finding it strangely appealing…especially now that I’m a “collector” and all :D

Yeah it really does, though I know very little about it.

That’s the spirit!

Metacritic gives it a 65

New release: Tropico 3 Gold, $10

Weekend deal: 1/2 off a bunch of Anuman games.

I have a history question. Did Disciples II and Age of Wonders come about because of Master of Magic? Disciples II seems vaguely similar to AoW. I’m wondering if there’s some shared ancestry. I never played MoM so I don’t know.

Disciples 2 is a wargame, where MoM is a builder/Civ type of game, so quite different animals.

And god damit - go play MoM right now! I promise you will not regret it! Seriously…its quite good :-)

Age of Wonders is also a civ builder more than a wargame, and they have always stated they were heavily influenced by MoM.

Not right now. I’m putting my old PC back together but I think the motherboard is dead. I’ll find an old one on eBay.

If they’re different games, why do Disciples II and AoW feel similar to me? (I know they’re not exactly alike – work with me here.) What’s the family tree look like for that type of game? Okay I see your edit now. Maybe I need to play more than an hour of Disciples II to notice the different feel.

They’re in the same genre–TB fantasy strategy. Other than that (and the tropes that go with it) they are pretty different. Disciples 2 is much more like the Heroes games than AOW.

Well, they also share the idea of an overall spellcaster (you) researching spells, but Disciples (Which is pretty damn awesome, I have to say) is much more a wargame, or even a puzzle game. You can actually quite easily lose in the game, if you dally about too much. Its all about the units, how you move them, and where you move them.

Age of wonders is nowhere near like that - its more like a civilization game. Build cities, defend them, turtle, be agressive - both works.

Picked up Tropico 3 Gold, again.

I already have it on D2D, er, but you know: fuck Gamefly. No DRM for one of my favorite games is worth taking the small shot in the arse again, I suppose.

The series is really amazing.
It deals with quite some serious themes like loss / death.
Total contrast to LucasArts adventures for example.
The commentary option is also a very nice bonus once you completed the game(s) as it really delivers the message that Dave etc. are enjoying creating these games.

In general I’m a huge fan of Wadjeye and own most of their games in multiple forms including GoG to vote with my wallet so to speak.
I have pre-ordered their latest published game Resonance already in DVD format (their "Collector’s Edition) just like I did with Gemini Rue.

You should really give them a shot if you are into some games that make you think about some serious themes like death and what might comes afterward etc.

Just don’t expect a ton of humor in them though some scenes are funny.

Silent Storm Gold new release, excellent game been waiting for this one.

Totally unexpected and excellent! I only wish missions didn’t pit your small squad against the entire wehrmacht.

Holy fuck! This one has been IMPOSSIBLE to find at a reasonable price. Totally getting this on Friday. Yay!

HOORAY FOR PANZERKLEINS

Did anybody ever mod these out or otherwise fix the brick wall they erect on your fun?

Hehehehe, erect fun, hehheheheh

I thought I read something about that as well–maybe it was just wishful thinking?
